Speaking for myself.... I dont want Brownell to fail, but it is time for him to put up or shut up. Hes had plenty of time. If he can't win a tourney, when every other team in the ACC has, and weve been here longer than half the recent winners, its time for him to go. The ACC tourney is the bullseye. If you can't hit it, thanks for your time, NEXT......

If Clemson isn’t capable of being ACC Champs in hoops then…

1

May 5, 2023, 9:04 PM [ in reply to Re: Hearing Joe Girard is committing soon ]

… maybe we should just stop trying.

We don’t actually compete in the ACC in basketball, we merely participate.

Clemson has never been in a better position to make a breakthrough than we were this past season. And yet we failed miserably..

If not then, when? If not now, why?

If the answer is “never”, then okay. Let’s admit it and quit wasting our time, money, and energy.

But, if it is not only possible, but very do-able for Clemson to be on top in the current ACC environment, then let’s finally get it done.

Just do it!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We didn’t fail miserably.

1

May 5, 2023, 10:23 PM

We finished third out of 15 teams, and had a chance the last week of the season to finish first.

How many times has that happened in 100+ years of Clemson basketball? Answer: not many!

We didn’t come close to winning the ACC reg season/tourney

1

May 7, 2023, 3:48 PM [ in reply to We didn’t fail miserably. ]

… in a season when both goals were right there for the taking.

Yes, everyone knows all too well that we’ve been unable to win the ACC tournament in the past. It stands out like a huge sore thumb!

It’s a long-standing embarrassment. We don’t compete, we merely participate. Year, after year, after year.

So, I repeat … if we are simply not capable of winning the ACC, let’s just admit it and live with it.

Meanwhile Ga Tech and Va Tech have managed it. Explain why they can do it and Clemson cannot.

Can it be explained rationally?

It’s way past time to get the job done.

Just win it for once.

No excuses.

Just do it.

Brad would be the first.

Re: In the last six years, we are fifth in the ACC in conference wins.

May 5, 2023, 10:55 PM

He relies on the portal just to field a team. They have no opportunity to gel and lose virtually every year to teams they have no business losing too. His inability to have his team up to speed at the start of the season has been a constant but is being amplified by the high portal turnover. The ACC is way down and as improve in season we’re able to “upset” a few historically great programs who are nowhere near as good as they used to be. Folks who don’t follow basketball outside of the Clemson games think we’ve done something and get excited. It has become a never ending cycle. Arguing that being 5th means something needs no more rebuttal than the fact that we didn’t make the NCAA. That is the bare minimum standard to consider a season a success. It is humiliating that we retain a 14th year head coach who can’t pass this threshold 1/4 of his time as coach.

What Brad has done in the last 5-6 years matters more than what he did in year 3 or 4.

Most fans care about a positive trend in their team, but interestingly, that does not seem to matter to Clemson basketball fans here. They would rather hold Brad’s third season against him over a decade after the fact, than focus on the positive momentum in the program.

May 5, 2023, 11:01 PM [ in reply to I don’t think you know what mediocrity means.*** ]

Brownell’s tenure is the definition of mediocrity. Your only rallying cry is that we’re 5th in the ACC over a very specific span of seasons. 5th is a whopping 1 place out of the middle of the conference which would be mediocrity. But you’re neglecting that in that 5 years, the ACC is bad by its historical standards. Hence, our inability to make the tourney even when we finish tied for 3rd.
