"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard

Those who do not believe this are in for a very sad awakening when they leave this mortal coil.

As do I.
And when I experience said sad awakening, I’ll let you know just how bad it is.
If Christ can’t save everybody, he’s not much of a messiah is he?
Try this: http://www.thomastalbott.com/index.php

You’ll disagree, but hopefully it’ll make a few think about their theology. Where does god’s sovereignty end and man’s free will begin???

Praise the Lord for his sacrifice so that we might have external life by excepting his salvation through God’s Grace. Re: General Lew Wallace a Union general during the Civil War

Apr 5, 2021, 4:19 PM

was a die hard atheist, so much so, that he set out to write a book disproving Jesus as the Son of God, or that he even existed. He studied and researched everything he could find on Him. During the course of his research, he realized that he was kicking against the thorns. One day he fell to his knees and asked for forgiveness, and for Jesus to come into his life.

He finished writing his book, but instead of disproving our Lord, he wrote probably the greatest Christian novel ever written, "Ben Hur".

Every Easter weekend, part of the celebration is watching the Charlton Heston version of Ben Hur, not completely true to General Wallaces book, but a great movie just the same. Two other movies, that I watch are The Passion of Christ, and a lesser known "Risen". If you haven't seen Risen, check it out. A very good movie.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mel Gibson did a great job with The Passion.

Apr 5, 2021, 4:52 PM

Although extremely gory, it was probably true to life. Have you read about the strange happenings on the set that occurred during the filming - Jim Caviezel was struck by lightning, the plexiglass protecting his back slipped and actually took a strike from the whips used? It seems like the demons were doing all they could to make sure that movie wasn't made. This is an ad written for a lawyer's office, but it details other injuries endured by Caviezel in the making of The Passion - https://www.boydbuckingham.com/2020/02/man-of-sorrows-injuries-suffered-by-jim-caviezel-while-filming-the-passion-of-the-christ/

Another link - https://www.reallifestories.org/stories/jim-caviezel/

And, yes, I agree about "Risen"; very good movie. Fiennes did a great job as the Roman soldier.

Apr 5, 2021, 5:26 PM

I had not heard about the whip accident. Yes he did do a great job with the movie. Every time I watch that movie, when I see what our Lord went through, I feel so unworthy. There used to be a show that came on every Easter. It was on the Discovery Channel, and it detailed just what a victim of crucifixion went through. It was a very agonizing way to die. In the show, they had a college student that was also a triathlete, hang on a cross, just to see how much he could endure. The guy wasn't nailed, but was tied, and had straps to hang on to that would ease the stress. He also had a block to sit on and a block to rest his feet. They monitored his heart and other vitals, as he hung on the cross. after about fifteen minutes, he said he was getting very uncomfortable. I think he actually hung there for about thirty or forty minutes before he had to come down. Christ did this for us, after being beat to a pulp and having spike driven through his hands and feet, and that's not even taking into account being separated from God. The truest form of love was expressed for us. I think if God had depended on me to endure what Jesus endured, mankind would be in some serious trouble,

the physical aspects of crucifixion. I believe I have the actual article that doctor wrote about the crucifixion at home. He has done several lectures about crucifixion throughout the country.

The one thing I remember that was pointed out in it was that, more than likely, when Christ stumbled and the weight of the cross jarred Him when it hit the ground, that His heart was injured/bruised. Thus, while on the cross, the bruise broke open, and the pericardium was filled with blood. Subsequently, when the Roman soldier pierced His side both water and blood flowed from the wound. So, John's account of this crucifixion detail was accurate.

Man will never accomplish peace, salvation, or truth. But, I do know this truth ... I am flawed, and I am a sinner. But, God through faith in Jesus Christ has forgiven me; something I never deserved nor could I ever earn. For it is only by His grace and mercy (Ephesians 2:8-10)

Re: I had heard about His heart being bruised

Apr 5, 2021, 7:02 PM

An old preacher once told me that the water and then the blood that flowed when the soldier pierced His side was also symbolic of a persons new birth, through Jesus' sacrifice. When a woman is ready to deliver her baby, there is water and then blood. I wish that old preacher was still around. He was one of the most knowledgeable men, on the Bible I have ever known.

By the way, the quote by John Newton, that you have under your donor icons, I liked it so much that I made a copy of it, and pinned it to the cork board on my desk. I liked to pin stuff like that on my desk, and always hoped that they would start a conversation. I also had to research Newton. It was a very good read. I can't remember exactly what was in the article, but as I recall he wrote one of the great gospel hymns. It may have been "Amazing Grace". I can't recall for sure. Anyway, speaking of the quotation I pinned on my desk, one day a young Puerto Rican girl, that worked in the IT department, was checking my computers, for whatever reason IT checked them, and noticing the quote, she began one of the most pleasant, uplifting, fun conversations that I ever had with anyone in the IT crowd. So your simple act of posting a Christians saying, touched at least two people. When I retired, I left all of those things pinned to my desk. Maybe they're still touching people. Who knows.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thank you so much for telling me about the quote!

Apr 5, 2021, 10:10 PM

That really touched my heart.

John Newton did write “Amazing Grace”. And, if you can find the movie, “Amazing Grace”, I cannot recommend watching it enough! I was speechless at the end and could not stop crying. It was the story of William Wilberforce and his success of ending the slave trade in England. John Newton, a former slave trader, was an ally of Wilberforce.

Thank you, again, for the encouragement!

Apr 5, 2021, 9:36 PM

So sad there are people who actually would give any of this a TD. How sad! I m sad for them, but I pray they will come to their senses. Jesus Christ gave his life for us, and He gave it in the most horrific way imaginable. HE gave it for sinners like me and so many others. I know it's hard to believe, that somebody would TD a post like this, all because someone doesn't believe in the miracle of Christ's sacrifice. What kind of person would oppose that belief? They don't get it, but I still pray for them. I won't give up on them. Christ doesn't give up, either. Even the thief on the cross who repented was forgiven. I'm SO, SO, thankful for that readily available forgiveness. This old boy needs it as badly as anybody who ever walked the face of earth, but I know that my forgiveness is guaranteed, because I DO BELIEVE.
