Dabo does not take transfers (as of today)...

Sep 13, 2021, 10:41 PM

I keep seeing people suggesting that we pick up a transfer or two when it's clear Dabo doesn't take Junior College guys and he doesn't take transfers.

While the transfer portal, NIL and other drastic shifts in college football (conference realignment, playoff expansion) may force him to eventually re-evaluate his position it's clear from his history that he does not want to do this and, especially where it concerns his team, he firmly believes that "doing the right thing is always right." He is committed to growing and developing his team from high school players who start at Clemson, "bloom" there and become outstanding leaders, fathers and men. He will not cheat his system or the young men that have committed to it.

I often see those same people reference the David Olson (QB from Stanford) situation in 2014 as an example of Dabo being willing to accept transfers but it's actually an example of Dabo watching out for his guys and helping a local kid. Olson was a QB from Irmo, SC that only took a snap in ONE game at Stanford in four years. Recognize that David Olson was on the Stanford football team for four years and never attempted a pass during a game. He was absolutely no threat to take a competitive snap away from any member of the Clemson football team.

We had an extra QB scholarship when Chad Kelly got kicked off the team after the spring game and Dabo gave it to an in-state kid who got a year of grad school for free. There was no downside to it for anyone. Kelly's unused scholarship didn't come open until well after recruiting season had ended; there were no worthy high school players available. With Olson we got an extra practice arm for a season, got the scholarship back for the following year and no one on the team lost their position or was threatened in any way by this generous act. This was a typical example of Dabo being Dabo and living by his beliefs.

Olson is NOT an example of Dabo being willing to bring in transfers to compete for playing time. If anything it illustrates the rare, non-competitive set of circumstances that would need to exist for Dabo to consider it and I don't see him changing his stance. After all, five of his most gut-wrenching losses have been to transfer QBs (Daniels, Fields, Burrow, Coker, N. Peterman) not to mention rosters filled with other transfers. If that hasn't already convinced him do it then I'm not sure what will.

Just my opinion,
-Moon

Wait to we lose about five or so games and everyone

You mean over the next 3-4 years?

Dabo moved Danny Pearman from TE coach to Director of scouting with his primary duty to monitor and study the transfer portal outgoing and incoming and how it affects Clemson. He is getting paid a lot of money to monitor and study players in the transfer portal.

This is a good point. Make it appear we will take someone when it is abundantly clear we arent taking anyone. I wish we'd take one once in a while just mess with their heads

So what you’re saying is Pearman is still collecting a check and achieving about the same productivity as he did coaching the TEs.

Obviously, 2 birds with 1 stone....

A place to put Pearman and the appearance of being open to the idea of the transfer option via the position created to study and observation all things transfer portal related-

Quite often there is a marked difference in what you want to do and what you have to do. I do not like the transfer portal at all, but it is here and not going away and you better recognize it and deal with it.

Seriously, you're all over the place insisting the Stanford transfer was a virtuous act of charity & morally obligatory. Your attempt to rationalize how this is not an example of accepting a transfer provides another example of what could be described as cronyism, won't mention the other ism that exists in a similar ship fashion-

He is being stubborn and it’s hurting the program

Sep 14, 2021, 2:56 AM

Ohio State kicked our butts in the playoffs last year and their two best players came from the transfer portal.

LSU kicked our butts the year before and they had 14 NFL draft picks most of which came from the transfer portal.

Georgia won the first game of the season and they had multiple starters on offense and defense, including their quarterback, that came from the transfer portal.

Alabama, Ohio state, and Georgia out recruit us and have more talent than us and they are using the transfer portal.

People on TigerNet love to say there’s really nobody good out there these are players they couldn’t make it somewhere else. Really? All three of my examples above prove them wrong. Because LSU, Ohio State, and Georgia all had multiple starters at key positions from the transfer portal and it was those players that were the difference in the games against us!

They beat us because of those transfer players.

The other rationalization is our culture. If a few transfers a year can destroy your culture you don’t have a culture. The culture is a sham if it’s that fragile.

I don’t see us winning another national championship until Dabo stops being stubborn about certain things. The transfer portal is one and making some staff changes, especially regarding the OL, being another!

Why do we need transfer portal players when we have future NFL Hall of Famers like Jake, Tyler and Will on the field? I was soooooooooooooooo happy to see Jake on the field missing tackles against that super elite SC State offense instead of that horrible 5 star Barrett Carter kid. Why would THAT kid ever need actual game reps? (that's sarcasm for those wondering).

Are you just making this stuff up? The only LSU player drafted in 2020 that was a transfer was Joe Burrow. The rest of that draft class was recruited and played their entire collegiate career at LSU.

In fact I can only try think of two transfer QBs ever that won a national championship: Cam Newton and Joe Burrow.

I can't think of a position where we need a transfer. We have great talent everywhere to develop.

We will take an offensive lineman in the portal next year if the right one is available. We have to be a Freshman or Sophomore that we were really high on coming out of high school. That unicorn may or may not exist.

We have great young OL already that will be stepping up. Its really not a major need even as poor as our OL has played. We have every position on the OL covered for the future and we will continue to recruit as well.
