I’m happy, but how effed up is the US political “system”?

Youngkin had to win the ENTIRE STATE with big margins in red country where I live, just to EEK OUT an overall win due to the libs in NOVA.
Thank God it was a clean GOP sweep for statewide offices AND the House will have a GOP changeover.
The people don’t want Wokelism. Period.

Yeah look at the Virginia county map. The entire state is red except for a few brain dead counties and the brain dead control the state. I have friends in rural southwest Virginia. They wish they could secede from Virginia. They should! Screw that northern Va cesspool.

People in larger cities tend to vote more for Democrats, and those outside of cities tend to vote for Republicans. So, in just about every state, you have a large physical area voting Republican, and a densely populated smaller area voting Democrat.
100 years ago I believe it was the opposite, when the Republicans held the cities. Maybe one day it will flip again.

They start doing more of that they won't be Trumpists anymore.
The bottom line is that Youngkin won by being distinctly not Trump and Not Crazy. He didn't repel the middle-income voters that are so repulsed by the extremism on either side and that got him across the finish line...if barely.
I've been saying awhile the GOP will win 2024 by doing exactly that. But if Trump comes back and the GOP doubles down on Trumpiness his sheer ability to mobilize the other side even more than his own will come back into play - especially with another four years for the older Boomers to die off and a younger, more diverse generation that can't freaking stand Trump to take root.
Get rid of Trump and his all-out assault on truth and American democracy in general, be more inclusive instead of repellent to those of differing backgrounds, and the GOP takes back middle America...and rolls. If it comes into 2024 as a mob of angry white reactionary Karens and Kevins it's going to lose.

To win an election, you generally have to get more people to vote for you than the other person. That's how it works.
If this election is about "Wokelism" (I don't know if that's true, or even what that is), then apparently about 48.5% of people in Virginia do want it.

Woke + socialism = Wokelism. The crazy Dem coalition didn’t hold.
Nov 3, 2021, 7:33 AM

Biden won because he turned out the Black vote and people were tired of Trump (more on that later). Mcauliffe couldn’t get enough of the Black vote and independents and GOPers wanted an end to Dem control at the state level. We could see the taxes coming.
Bottom line, without a guy like Biden, the Dems do not have a chance with their weird woke/LGBTQ/elite/media/socialist coalition.

Bill Gates microchip 5G, pedophile global elitist sex ring people define Republicans.
Neither is true, but strawmen are always needed. And the extremists who you see at school board meetings, and the extremists you see protesting, etc. they represent a far smaller minority of people than the minutes they occupy on the news, or the likes they have on social media. But the news has to cover something. Are you more apt to share watering schedules and techniques for a good flower garden, or some salacious political rumor?
Ever notice the leaders who we elect never moderate their political views? Usually. It's always more extreme, never less. When they run for election (today) they are not extreme, they appeal to more people, THEN when elected, they respond to the disproportionate voice of their party's extreme wing, then they LEAD more extreme than they campaign. Complete 180 from decades past.
You can take the mask debate in my own deep red county. Think Trump won 65% of the vote. Go to a city or county council meeting, or a school board meeting, and you hear 9 mask haters for every person who supports them. BUT, a poll of the parents of the 28,000 kids in our school district, almost 70% wanted the schools to have the ability to enact mask mandates. That's a HIGHER percentage than who voted for Trump in the county. So the issue you see reflected in the public meetings of elected officials, and the feelings of those who respond privately, at home, to a question from the district....you get two very different answers and realities. The same goes for liberals, wokism, environmentalism, abortion, CRT, whatever.

Agree 100% and you hit the nail on the head. These progressives have a mind that either does not work or works backwards.
Why T F are you calling parents at a school board meeting extremists WHEN THE A-HOLE SCHOOL BOARD WAS COVERING UP THE RAPE OF A GIRL IN A GIRL'S BATHROOM BY A GUY IN A SKIRT? Are you even aware of the issue? Do you have kids or a daughter? SMH.
This type of backward thinking is why you lost, but the sad part is you did not lose by 20 points.

Some are even crackheads, meth heads, you name it. Liberal, conservative, whatever. There are extremists doctors, lawyers, actors, and convenience store clerks, burger flippers, even preachers. What's your point?
If you have to elevate the status of someone making a point, to make the point, especially before even making any point, then credibility is already lost. This is what liberals have done for decades, and now republicans do it too. I'm a black, single mother....then they make a point. I'm a patriotic, veteran, doctor, and you make a point. Same thing. It's why I don't follow a thing Anthony Fauci says. My own personal doctor, he didn't rattle off his resume to me the first time I saw him. If he did, I'd have another personal doctor. I knew about him from friends, word of mouth, and he's a good doctor. I don't even know his politics.
A lawyer....if they start by rattling off their experience, education, or whatever, they've just shot themselves in the foot. Almost universally, they provide their clients with more of a disservice than a service. "I've been practicing law for 30 years, and...." they make their point. Ok, well, you've never had a case like this then is what that tells me, loud and clear.

So which one was prosecuted? Obama administration prosecuted 8 whistle blowers. Trump administration went after none. I'm no big Trump fan, but this idea that he was a Facist, makes me realize people don't know what a Facist is, and haven't studied history enough to recognize what one looks like.
