Have any of you ever heard Coach Brownell

say the goal for Clemson basketball is to win the ACC or NCAA title. If your expectations are low your results will be lower.
Dabo came to Clemson with high expectations even though the program was not at a point that it could win at that level consistently.

I'm sure he sets some team goals each year...

but what I have personally heard him say are things like,

"It doesn’t matter what the media/sports writers think(s) of us, that we won't be very good, that we might be better this year, or where they pick us to finish in the league standings. Those things have no impact on winning. How we work, how we prepare, the amount of togetherness that we show and how much we really care about one another is what’s most important.”

I think his boss doesn't have those expectations.

I have been harping on this same subject. I think the administration should set the goal and then do what is necessary to attain it. My goal:

Top25 every year and if not that then a minimum of making the tournament. Every year. No excuses.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

There is absolutely no justifiable reason, at least IMO

Jan 25, 2022, 9:55 AM

why Clemson can't be a consistent tip 25 team in college hoops.

As for the NCAA Tournament, let's be reasonable. How about a minimum of seven out of every ten years?

Exactly. Very reasonable. You'll have years that you're a good team but with the auto bids could get left out. Should make one of the tournaments every year barring a major issue as we experienced in football where it seemed every injury was season ending. I don't think for a minute anyone would slam CBB if that happened.

Auburn has a top 5 basketball team and has played for a Natty, if Auburn can be a basketball power, Clemson can be a basketball power. Auburn and Clemson are very similar in many ways.

Dabo came to Clemson with high expectation?

Is this fan fiction?

I mean 99% of folks thought Dabo was just a placeholder for some bigger search. Very few that had not interacted with him understood the full hire in 2008. Heck, he was worried about his own job security and even in the winter of 2014, the Coots thought we were insane for giving him a contract bump.

It was about changing culture. That has to happen first. He had to change the culture of being a underachieving quasi-power into something else.

Brad kinda is doing the same role... but we were not an underachieving quasi-power. We were an underachieving bottom-rung gimmick that either played in the Shyatt Invitational OR you can to anyother school as fast as you could. Heck- being a mid-table non-doormat consistently is something.

My question is always this: Are you willing to strip 30 million from the football program each year for the next 15 yyears and invest it into the basketball program. That is what it will take. It is "all-in". I say pick a lane. Win in football and soccer, fix the baseball team, and make basketball not suck.

How long do you keep at it at "don't suck?" How long do you say if keep going at .500 for 5 or more seasons with maybe just 1 more NCAA. I mean there isn't An AD from any other university in power 5 that would take that mentality of let's just not suck for 5 years or more years? Even other bad basketball programs. Northwestern is about to let go fo Chris Collins and he took them to there only NCAAT and just one. They have a worse program than Clemson in basketball

It is not like Clemson has never won in basketball. I don't care if you say yeah those two guys left for more money. You can't have that mentality. You got to eventually say we want to win more as well as the other good things with the program. How try to keep a hold of a consistent winner? That is something you can strive for also.
