Hate the loss. But losing to the coots might be what this program needed.

Nov 27, 2022, 11:07 AM

Came into the season with questions regarding the o-line, receiving corps, and QB.

I would say the o-line made improvements. Having a 1000 yard back and good production from the remaining stable was a positive step up.

Receiving. Other than a couple of bright spots, a total unmitigated disaster. Talent, coaching, motivation all lacking. Two years in a row. Major changes needed. When your TEs are better route runners and have better hands than your edge guys, you’re in trouble.

QB. Unable to turn lemons into lemonade. Inaccurate, immobile, statuesque, poor read option decisions and route progression. It was better than last year. But my goodness, the absolute weak link to the whole team. Whether out of lack of talent, readiness, or pure stubbornness, the inability to have and use a quality backup sealed this team’s fate. Again two years in a row. Major changes needed.

Defense. Came into the year with the front seven being world beaters. Yet time and time again, the combination of inability to stop the run up front or big misses in the secondary, lesser talented teams stayed in the ballgame. Points given up per game no where near preseason expectations. Dabo railed on this group multiple times this year. Not all their fault given the up/down offense, but a place of improvement and focus ending this season and going into the next.

Season is not over. But I don’t expect sweeping changes. We’re a bit locked in. If we get something different, I’ll be the first to be pleasantly surprised.

Either way, major aspects need to be addressed and yesterday’s loss may be the catalyst needed.

Great points! It was the loss in 2013 to USuC (another one

that we should have won) that elevated the program to the next level. Perhaps history will repeat itself. Good leaders adapt to change, great leaders effect change. . .we will soon find out which one we have.

One would hope you’re right, but I just wonder if our HC’s massively inflated ego will allow him to truly see the problems, admit that they ARE problems, and then take the necessary actions to fix things. I personally will believe it when I see it.

Hopefully it's a loss that hits reset for Dabo......

Nov 27, 2022, 11:18 AM

he has to swallow some pride for that to happen though.

Fans donating hard earned money to watch this show wanting some changes in the product and is warranted....at least with the Carolina Panthers you can stay at home and watch a dumpster fire and don’t feel bad afterwards.....

No doubt about this, a new quarterback, play caller and QB coach should be same person, and receiver coaching needed. He needs to make some touch decisions but that QB is not the answer. Get back into Georgia and get another Trevor Watson.

The WR corp is not our problem.

When a receiver runs play after play fighting to get open and gets ignored or maintaining position to block for another and the QB throws the ball 3 yards out of reach of the primary frustration will eventually get the best of anyone.

When a receiver is running a crossing route and the ball is thrown too early, late or behind him eventually he realizes calling that play is a wasted down. The conclusion is always after mixing in a jar of mayo and a pound of pickles chickenchit will never become chicken salad.

acknowledgement of these glaring, obvious problems. While I completely understand and agree that a coach should never throw players under the bus, there almost seems to be a denial by Dabo and other coaches that these problems even exist. I understand if we don't fire the OC or totally revamp the offense mid-season, but to keep doing the same old thing signals either a huge blind spot, or outright denial of the problem, and THAT is what I think Clemson fans find so baffling and frustrating.

In a nutshell, how does a program with the tradition, clout, and resources Clemson has, wind up with such a consistently poor offense and poor QB play? And don't insult us by bowing up and acting pissed when we ask that question, and don't insult us further by minimizing these problems or rationalizing them. Our offensive performance and QB play has been consistently poor; acknowledge it and tell us how you are going to fix it.

When the fans stop donating and showing up to games, you will see a change. Sometimes those coaches that want to snap back at perfectly legitimate questions need to be slapped in the face with what can happen.
