All of this is my attempt to recall what Dad told me; Clemson flew to the BC gamein 1948. It was the first time a SC football team had traveled by air to a game. My Dad (Ray Clanton) said it was a big deal and that they stayed in the nicest hotel in Boston that happened to be managed by a native of Darlington (our hometown). Clemson won.. well, it was 1948 and the next week when they were watching the game film, Dad said he noticed one of the press.. dressed as the press of the day dressed for a fall game in Boston, in a long wool coat and a fedora, seemed more animated that normal. As the game went on, the "reporter" became more and more excited, sprinting up and down the field to keep up with the play. At one point, after a key Clemson play, the "reporter" got so excited, that he took off his hat and waved it over his head. Then Dad recognized his brother, massive Clemson fan JC, who had hitchhiked to the game from from Greenville and somehow managed to procure a press pass.
