QB battle

Mar 30, 2014, 12:47 PM

I know a pretty solid source. He says Cole is ahead of both Watson and Kelly.

To be honest, I'm a little shocked. I would have thought Kelly would take the lead here. You never know tho about what the next few months might bring. I personally want Kelly to win this job.

That's not what I hear from my pretty solid source.

Mar 30, 2014, 12:49 PM

Kelly is keeping up with Stoudt and Watson is struggling an little according to what I hear.............

Re: That's not what I hear from my pretty solid source.

Mar 30, 2014, 12:51 PM

Im just telling you what Im hearing. This guy is solid too..... He thinks Cole is definitely the leader at this point.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know if that's true, but I can't understand why

Mar 30, 2014, 12:54 PM

anybody would find it surprising if Cole were ahead of Chad. It should be expected.

Mar 30, 2014, 12:59 PM

well Kelly is the better talent for one.... Kelly fits this offensive scheme better.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How much of that is that based on your observation of both

Mar 30, 2014, 1:15 PM

in practice and actual game situations? Can't be much, since you probably haven't seen them in practice, and we haven't seen enough of Kelly in real games to make that call.

We do know that Morris hand-picked Kelly, and we know both he and Dabo want a mobile QB, so that does count for something.

We do know what we've heard and read from recruiting sites and on T-Net, but I'd be careful drawing much of a conclusion from any of that.

We also know that Cole got a lot of PT last year, and we do know that while it was mostly in mop-up, he was extremely effective.

We also know that this QB battle won't simply go to the guy who is the better runner. I'm confident it will go to the guy who gives us the best chance to win, whether it is Cole, Chad, or Deshaun.

I think that how confident the coaches are in the running game will have an impact-if the run game is good then Cole will probably start-if rush game is suspect then chad would probably have the edge.

I for one, have never seen Cole,do anything ""wrong"" when asked to step in ????___Chad has worked harder than anyone alive for a chance___Watson may be a special athlete___ hoping they can find a way to play Cole & Chad___while Watson, sits on a redshirt, learning the system ___ somehow, Morris has got to play these guys together ( what better way,to confuse a defense ???? ) if you have two, maybe even three, AAAAAA++++++++ quarterbacks ???? ____take a lesson from the OBS's record at Florida___ use all your talent & win ball games !!!! ( JMHO )

You wanna know what I think?

I think you don't have a, "pretty solid source".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hahahahaha....NICE!!***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Same. Just relaying what I hear.

Mar 30, 2014, 1:54 PM [ in reply to Re: That's not what I hear from my pretty solid source. ]

The person I've gotten my information from has a son who's a senior and has ties to a few people he says are long time higher level IPTAY types. And it's all just gossipy talk but as of later last week the word was that Stoudt and Kelly were showing a lot of good signs and some mistakes here and there.

Once Morris decides who he will "settle in with" early this week I guess we'll learn some more about how the coaches see the battle going and not just all the outsiders.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, as usual those "solid sources" aren't the coaches.***

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just my opinion

Mar 30, 2014, 4:27 PM

but, Ii believe that the best thing to happen for Watson's sake is for Cole to win the battle if he doesn't. Think how hard it would be for Watson to start next year if Kelly wins this year with 3 years of eligibility left-especially if we win 9-11 games this year.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not what I hear from my pretty solid source.

Mar 30, 2014, 6:34 PM [ in reply to That's not what I hear from my pretty solid source. ]

My solid source says that I don't know anyone that close to these kinds of descissions. He also tells me everything I already think, so that's kinda weird.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Also depends on how they are evaluated

Mar 30, 2014, 12:58 PM

I would imagine Kelly would be more comfortable in a scrimmage like scenario but Cole in a strictly passing skills drill.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think we've seen enough of Kelly to know what

Mar 30, 2014, 1:03 PM

he will be like in a game. His mop up run against a terrible Virginia team is talked about like he's the next coming of Cam Newton. I think Stoudt should be expected to win the job, but if he doesn't, we are in good shape because I think he is pretty solid. If Watson beats both out at this point then he is going to be phenomenal. But my guess is that it's Stoudt.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly.***

Re: QB battle

Mar 30, 2014, 1:05 PM

I also know a very solid source. He tells me Mac Lain is leading for the QB spot

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we have two very capable QBs

Mar 30, 2014, 1:09 PM

A 230 Cole aliviated my main concern for him. Both bring a lot to the table. It is up to the Chad to make something of them. We are in pretty good hands I would see.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

two very capable QBs - yes, Solid Stoudt starting with Swag

Mar 30, 2014, 1:29 PM

coming in with effective Wild Swagcat attack - dual QB system like this will have all d. coordinators scratching their heads. Watson redshirting just like Winston, Tajh and Johnny fb!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's a long time between now and the UGA game......

Mar 30, 2014, 1:12 PM

so who knows?

And then it depends on the UGA game as to who plays QB in the next game. None of our QBs have really been tested yet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sobering thought - which QB has not been injured?

Mar 30, 2014, 5:29 PM

Cole Stoudt, 6-5, now up to 230 lbs. this could be a factor? However, I do know Swag outplayed him in Spring Game last year until injured. So...

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

to be honest...I want Cole

Mar 30, 2014, 2:11 PM

to win the job this year...I am ready to see what a 6-4, smart and calm QB can do in Chad's offense...

Kelly sounds a bit too emotional to be effective in big games IMO.

They will both play at UGA. This battle will be won on a

Re: QB battle

Mar 30, 2014, 5:17 PM

The only thing I'm sure of is there are no "high level IPTAY donor types" who know any more than anyone else about who stands where. Best sources are other players who are out there every day.
