What if we filled the 10+ available schollies with 4 star??

Sep 22, 2021, 2:35 AM

And not the Swinney's, the Venables, the Brown's, Edwards, Rencher's, Spector's (at least one). Then we actually filled with great 4* players and the super underated 3* that get missed annually???

Instead we use 6-11 schollies annually to be a charity. These kids would never make a P5 team but would play as FCS.

Are we hurting their careers? That I cant Answer, but I feel confident another OL person, another RB, another DT, etc would be a huge benefit today. Plus add the fact that we could find the diamond in the rough that wins the next game.

At least add 3-4* players, not o-1star players. We start the season with 8-10 less P5 players than the rest of the top 5-6 players. Time to grow as coached the experimental situations is over. Let's get adapted and be dominant again!!

* some exclusions may apply with respect to coaches kids, friends-of-the-family and feel-good "Rudy" type cases deemed "compelling" by the current staff.

At your next job as Head Coach at Clemson University you can implement this concept if you want; in the meantime I'll continue to support the Coach and Staff we currently employ.

Everyone thought those moves were cute at one time and Dabo was so cool by doing them. Let's see, when we were winning championships maybe. For me those moves have been ethics violations. No different than my employer not letting me hire a family member as a direct report or to work in the same department. Heck, with my company if 2 individuals are in the same department and get married one of them has to leave. Not us at Clemson, bring on the charity scholarships for all family members. I understand some of the names aren't on scholarship but it's a bad look regardless.

College football has changed over the last decade and Dabo needs to consider changing with it.

I totally understand that this coaching staff has won 2 titles and has earned the benefit of the doubt. Easy for us to sit here and offer up our thoughts.

However, the last 2 years we had really good teams not great teams. 2018 is the standard and 2019 and 2020 were below that standard. Why? Missing pieces on both sides of the ball.

2019 the only team that came close to beating LSU was Auburn because they had a good D-line that couple pressure the QB. Our D-line was depleted due to Grad/NFL and we had a 3 man front. A couple of good transfers could have made the difference.

2020 a couple of good O-linemen and a couple of D tackles would have helped a lot.

2021 a slot receiver would be helpful right now and change the entire complexion of the offense. Could we not find a Center and a couple of O-linemen for one year until the new talent we keep hearing about is ready?

We are in the age of free agency in college football and we are not taking advantage of it. We have a tremendous defense that is championship caliber, with an offense that may lose us a couple of games before we start to see improvement.

In total we are talking about maybe 5 or 6 transfers that might have made all the difference in the world the last couple of years.

Guessing you dont realize both of Brent's kids

fell in to your 3-4 star model. Guessing you also don't realize Renfrow, Humphries, Turner, Gaines Adams and many more did not

Which Spector are you dissing, the one who is all conference or the one who would be a solid second team WR if he was ready to play.

team has a couple of senior guys on scholarship that wouldn't normally be there because of attrition and availability. Our issues wouldnt be fixed with 10 more scholarships. We have a 5 star qb who is on the struggle bus, we do have two slot options but one is hurt and the other is playing 9th string qb this year at Dabos urging.

To be fair, the Venables and Spectors all had multiple D-1 offers and are not FCS players. Rencher is only there bc of the extra year rule and its customary to give walkons like the Edwards', Brown, May, etc. a scholarship their senior seasons. Swinney probably should not be considering his parents can pay his way just fine.

Having said all that, you can always use an extra 4 or 5 star lineman but its not like thats why we are struggling. We have more than enough quality lineman to be an above average unit.

I love how you diminish the concept of giving a scholarship to guys who were not highly ranked while also advocating for saving that scholarship for "super underrated 3* that get missed annually".

Also taking another RB would just mean we would have an extra person bailing for the portal when Shipley came in and took his spot. So far 2 guys have left because of Shipley and Pace. One left because he wanted all the carries and the other left because he is barely getting any carries because of those 2.

Commenting on 6th year guys makes no sense because their scholarship doesn't count toward the 85 this season.

Lastly, people are begging for Will Taylor to get a shot at slot receiver and to touch the ball more. Remind me again, how many stars he had as a football recruit?

With this logic we likely would never had Renfro on our team.
