Guess I was never taught about it in history class

Jun 1, 2021, 1:19 PM

And never heard it mentioned with all the racial animosity over the past 10 years.

But this Tulsa 1921 thing was really bad and I had never heard about it until just recently...

When did you first learn about it?

Only recently...and am 51 years old. If it was mentioned in HS or college history, it was only in passing and definitely not enough to make an impression...and it would have made an impression for sure.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just within the past year - but I'm not sure where I heard

Jun 1, 2021, 2:27 PM

about it first.

It is odd that since the racial upheaval started in the 1960's that this was never mentioned until recently...

in any history class. Just didn't quite make it by the end of the year, I guess.

To answer your question, I still haven't learned about it. I've seen it mentioned in various news headlines recently.

The first I heard about it was when Trump went there to make a speech.

The event was pretty horrific.

Both events you mention were pretty horrific.

Jun 1, 2021, 5:17 PM

Not that a Trump Rally even remotely compares to what happened in 1921...but you get the point.

What did Trump say in that speech? I didn't listen to it.

Dog whistles - that's one of my favorite hocus pocus words.

I never heard about it until about three years ago. I watched the 60 minutes special on it recently. Apparently they didn't even teach it in Tulsa public schools over the decades. Many residents don't even know it happened.

I know this is terrible, but...Watchmen.

Somehow I literally did not know about it until then. I was just like: c'mon, whatever. And then I googled, and was like: wut? And I'm a mega-history buff, who speed-reads everything, compulsively.

Literally had no idea.

Likewise, I first learned about it via Watchmen. Actually was before I even watched Watchmen. Was reading some reviews prior to watching and 1921 Tulsa was mentioned and there you go...

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was on PBS (I think) years ago, not sure exact date

Jun 1, 2021, 3:58 PM

I know I didn't learn about it in school, but I also know I've known about "black wall street" and the Tulsa Massacre for a few years.

It was a thing in the recent Watchmen, too, which probably started it getting more awareness leading to today where I think most know about it now.

It Happened...

Jun 1, 2021, 6:19 PM

but not the way you are being told. The story was changed by those who "write" modern history books. There was definitely some bad blood after a white female was sexually assaulted but the lootings and burning of black businesses were not by angry white mobs. The number of dead has been changed from 36ish of all races, to now over 300 blacks. The official name has been changed to "race massacre" because "race riot" didn't invoke enough "hate whitey". The focus is on Black Wall Street, in an effort to justify massive reparations based on "what could have been" and to include those that aren't descendances of slavery.

Not saying that this wasn't a tragedy, but the winds of change sweeping through our nation of woke-ness by those who control academia and who control victimhood, are just pulling out another tool in their never ending quest for absolute power. I know most people's knowledge of history were limited by lunch on one side and recess on the other, but dive deeper for the truth.

Passed through Tulsa a few years ago and heard about it

Jun 1, 2021, 6:47 PM

Think I might have seen it on the History Channel back when they did history, not aliens, too. Definitely no more than 1o years ago. Rosewood Florida is another ugly story, as is ex-Hamburg, South Carolina outside of Augusta. Town wiped out and no longer exists.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are two sides to the story

Jun 2, 2021, 5:27 AM

but it’s still remarkable how this story was so unknow until recently. According to Wikipedia, a black shoe shiner was accused of sexually assaulting a white girl. The black guy was arrested and word got out that he was going to be lynched. 75 blacks went to the courthouse protesting. Then a gun battle started and 12 whites and 2 blacks were killed and all hell broke loose after that.

No one went to jail as an all-white jury acquitted those arrested.
