some segments of the population "play the race card" when it's convenient in order to gain some form of advantage, a desired outcome, to justify some inappropriate conduct, or to gain more leeway or latitude. Nothing wrong with promoting inclusivity, but not because of concerns that if you don't you're going to be labeled as racist or intolerant. All that does is devalues and minimizes genuine claims of racism.

Was it insensitive? Absolutely. Was it racially motivated? I don't know. If he said the same thing about Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, or Angelina Jolie would it have been viewed as racist? I doubt it.
However, according to more recent reports, Gruden also sent other emails that contained statements deemed homophobic, misogynistic and transphobic. He apparently denounced the emergence of women as referees and the drafting of gay players.
At the end of the day, I don't know if's its fair to categorize Gruden as a racist. It seems to me he's more of an opinionated a$$, something about which we can all probably agree.

Randy Moss almost cried on air due to Gruden's first leaked email. He gets called out for it and then threatens to murder Jason Whitlock. Nothing will happen to his career.
