Is our transfer rate higher than most?

Mar 25, 2013, 12:19 PM

It may just be a college basketball thing but it seems that we have an awful lot of transfers every year in basketball. We always have about 1 or 2 each season. Is that higher than normal?

Not good signs 3 years in to a new coach.

Right after its common but not 3 years after and with the new guys own recruits.

Still time to make a move DRad.

In my opinion, your analysis may not be accurate

While you never like to see a lot of transfers out, take a moment to look at programs like Duke with Coach K to see how many guys they have transfer out.

With that being said, I am absolutely not comparing CBB with K, but in basketball transfers are much more common.

I don't think so. Their are more transfers in basketball

than any other sport, especially with guys not red-shirting anymore unless they are hurt. NCSU has had 3 guts ransfer out in the last 2 years. UNC lost the Wear twins and Drew in one year. BC had several a few years back. Wake had 3 last year. We've had 5 in 3 years I believe(Johnson, Hill, Stanton, Sapp and now it appears Sullivan). Are any of those a big loss?

There was one other, sort of

We also lost Thornton, who decommited when Brownell was hired. As it turned out, he wasn't much of a loss either.

Don't think yo can count him as he never enrolled

is school. Their are hundreds of basketball transfers every year. Reason being their are more basketball teams playing college basketball than their are teams in any other sport, so the opportunity to move on and play somewhere else is more available. Throw in the rule where if a guy graduates he can move to another school without sitting out and the system avails itself to a lot of player movement

Seems like it

but until Sullivan's transfer (still not confirmed but I assume it's true) they were all for understandable reasons.

Donte Hill transferred to be closer to home
Noel Johnson didn't get along with his new coach/didn't like the new system
Corey Stanton and TJ Sapp were both facing being buried on the depth chart and transferred to schools where they had a shot to play
