Greenwood's Drive-in opening soon, why don't we have one?

Feb 3, 2023, 3:20 PM

Between Clemson and the three local cities, why don't we have a drive-in? Is the population only here for meat and three and football?

Some friends of mine went there and told me about it.

I lived in Shelby for 6 months. Back then it was a dry county.

A drive in theater. They have three massive screens, and you get the audio by tuning into a specific channel.

I remember as a small child at the Greenwood 25 Auto Drive In you would park next to a post that had a speaker hanging on it about the size of a clothing iron and you would roll the window down a little ways and hang the speaker on your car window. Greenville and Anderson both had drive-ins as well.

My goal is huge, when you walk into Downtown Disney, or when you walk into Univeral Studios... just a smaller scale... but it sounds impossible. It isn't, I have plans. I thought of the idea, because I write screenplays...

I will assume you are talking about drive-in movie theatres?

Feb 3, 2023, 11:15 PM

Years ago, Greenwood had two, one on the south side of town, the other on the north side. Maybe one of those in re-opening?

A great drive-in theatre not too far from Greenwood is the Big Mo, in Monetta, SC. They have three screens and show first run movies.

The one in Greenwood on Highway 25 South has been opening for several years and shows current movies - most of the time there are more than one movie per night. Not sure when they start back for warm weather.

One theater has been open on the South Side of town (near the old fair grounds) for well over a decade.

I had forgotten that. They leveled the one on the North Side of town at Hwy25/72 to make way for a Kmart. The one on the southside reopened back around 2009 I think.
