Greenwood War Memorial Plaque on NBC News

Seems like Greenwood's decision, don't know why SC Legislature must approve. Was their approval required for the original Memorial?

A South Carolina law that was passed in 2000 to protect war memorials and historic structures on public property. The law prevents anyone from changing the name of any street, bridge, structure or park that has been “dedicated in memory of, or named for, any historic figure or historic event.”

My question is why now? Why is all this crap coming up now? Because it's a hot topic and people see a chance to jump on what they feel like is offensive to them?

Why can't people just leave stuff alone and worry about #### that actually matters.
