Recruiting This Week PT: 4

May 13, 2021, 5:34 PM

We have almost survived another week without visits being allowed, we are getting closer and closer, and with that let's update some visits. This will be the last update of the week, unless something big comes along. BTW I have been asked how regularly I will be posting in June and I would say very, very often, and those are going to be must reads for those interested in Clemson football. As I will give updates on visits for recruits across the class of 22, 23, 24, and 25, yes the class of 25 more on that below :)

-Let's begin with recent FSU decommitment Nyjalik Kelly. David Hood had a great article here, and reading it should have given you a pretty good idea of who is involved. Clemson wanted Kelly to visit for the Elite Retreat, but he has his first official to Indiana scheduled that weekend, so June 4th looks like a likely date. You still have to consider FSU as well as Miami and Georgia as a recent offer. Have to see how the visit goes before we know where Clemson stands in that group.

-Update on 2 safety recruits.

1. Sherrod Covil has changed his dates to come to Clemson so that he can attend the Elite Retreat. He also has a visit to ND scheduled, and that visitor list should give a pretty clear picture of who Clemson has to battle. A few other schools might get visits, but the two teams I named lead here. I really like where Clemson is.

-Speaking of the Elite Retreat here are recruits who have confirmed that they are attending not including the 4 commits.

CB Jeadyn Lukus

CB Toriano Pride

S Sherrod Covil

RB Branson Robinson

DE DJ Wesolak

S Keon Sabb

2. The second safety is in the class of 23" Terrance Love wants to visit Clemson June 2nd. He already has a slew of offers, but Georgia and Alabama are also going to get visits this Summer.

-One of the visitors at the Retreat Clemson will have a lot of work to do with. That is RB Branson Robinson. Georgia should be a heavy favorite, but based on new info, Oregon may be running second. You also have Alabama hanging around, which should always be a threat. Clemson has a seat at the table and have been on him for a long time, but they have to show Robinson a lot at the Retreat.

-The only other offer out is Trevor Etienne, and he has not advancement his recruitment in months, and I would put greater odds that he does not end up in this class, may change but right now I do not see it. As such CJ has been in contact with another highly rated recruit in Va. RB George Pettaway. While a date has yet to bet set he wants to make it to Clemson this Summer. Michigan and Penn State already have officials, but UNC is the leader here because of Bly, that I guy I tell y'all about. However, we will have to see how much Clemson's involvement changes his recruitment. Clemson may also choose not to take a RB, with how they hit with 2 great prospects last year.

-I mentioned in one of my previous update that Ohio OL/DL Luke Montgomery had expressed interest in Clemson , maybe another Carman. Well he will now visit either June 14th or 15th.

-Another OL recruit is going to be at Clemson for the final day of The Dabo Swinney Camp on June 11th. In state OT Monroe Freeling will be competing at camp on June 11th. He is not from the state, and that means that he has no real connection to any in-state program. However, based on info,Clemson figures to play a large role in his recruitment, as will Notre Dame, UNC, and UGA, in that order as of now.

-Around a month ago I did a mock class where I said that Clemson was very interested in taking a kicker this class. I highlighted the #1 kicker in the country Alex McPherson as a guy to watch. Well now the #2 overall kicker in the country, Will Bettridge, is set to visit Clemson on June 4-5th. Look for him to commit this Summer with other trips being to Florida, UGA, LSU, and Michigan.

-I mentioned that a class of 25 prospect was set to visit Clemson, and that guy has a familiar name. Winston Watkins will be on Clemson's campus this Summer. He is the cousin of Sammy Watkins, and he looks to be very special as well.

-I mentioned class of 23" QB Nicholaus Iamaleava earlier this week saying this: It appears that Iamaleava is set to throw for Clemson at the Dabo Swinney Camp on June 5th. While he is out South he also plans to visit UGA and Bama, and then head North to OSU. If Clemson so desires to make a push, they have a little help as Iamaleava and his family are very close to DJ and his family. If Clemson so chooses they could become a team to beat along with USC and Oregon.

-After watching his film, man is he impressive. Cannon for an arm and he looks like a top 20 or top 10 player. He should make a huge jump in the rankings if these sites know what they are doing, reminds you a lot of Trevor with the arm strength and build.

-Finally local Mauldin CB Jeadyn Lukus has set two visits, to UNC on the first weekend in June and then Clemson for the Elite Retreat. Clemson are still in a good position, and hopefully after finally being able to visit those 2 places, Clemson can get some good news after he visits.

-Have a great end to the week and weekend Tigernation!!

Why do you think ETN2 has never seemed to be heavily involved with Clemson? If you read about him, they say there are similarities and he is slightly bigger at the same age. Only heard good things about his abilities. Has he shown little interest in Clemson or has he not been high on the Clemson Board.

I remember reading an article about Trevor a couple years ago, probably ETN's Soph year, where Trevor said he loved Clemson and could see himself playing here. But now that his brother is gone, does he have hopes of paving his own path?

I think that it is a number of things that you mentioned. I really could see the kid just trying to make his own way. However, he has always spoken highly of Clemson, like you said, and no other team seems close to getting a commitment from him. I do not think that he would be the 1st back on Clemson's board right now. I always liked the odds that he ended up at LSU or Georgia. However, I am not sure where he stands on their boards either, LSU may have another in-state guy higher, while if UGA gets Robinson they would have 2 RBs committed. I feel like whichever of those 3 really starts to push for him is where he will go, I just do not know right now which team that will be, which is why I said I would take the field right now.

-BTW is comp is most likely clyde edwards-helaire from LSU's National Championship team. Both are shorter but are really dangerous catching the ball out of the backfield.

I meant to mention that the class of 24 prospect is an instate QB, I will just talk about him in my next update just FYI.

Branson Robinson doesn't have Oregon even in his top 5 nor is he visiting so I don't know about that one. Thanks for the all the info though.

You are totally right I meant to say that Oregon was pushing for a spot, but TBH other teams just hope to survive the first visit to Georgia. If he comes out of that visit uncommitted other teams then have a chance. I also think that if he makes it out of that weekend, Clemson would have a legitimate shot at Robinson. All about that first visit to Georgia.
