Great story about Robbie Caldwell rescuing stranded ND fans

Written by Aaron Brenner

CLEMSON — For all Larry and Tony Luppi knew, they were about to meet an untimely end at the hands of a kidnapper wearing Clemson gear.

Luckily for the two brothers, Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell, not a man with bad intentions, was in the right place at the right time to rescue the stranded Notre Dame fans during a driving rainstorm in the wee hours Sunday morning.

Larry Luppi, 31, graduated from Notre Dame’s law school in 2010. He and his brother Tony, 30, both from Southern California, were celebrating Tony’s 30th birthday by making their first trip to South Carolina for Saturday’s nationally televised Notre Dame-Clemson showdown.

“Pretty dedicated fans to come all the way out here. They were the nicest people, and they were tickled pink,” Caldwell said Wednesday night. “All they could talk about was how well they were treated by the Clemson fans. That’s very impressive by our people.”

We really do,have some awesome coaches!

That was one of the best articles I've read on Clemson ever.

I continually am impressed with our school, our coaches, and student athletes and our fans. Lukewarm on the administration and board; not a fan of our wind-tunnel tested hairdo AD, but extremely proud to be a Clemson alum and fan.

That's awesome. Thanks for posting.

Both of these ND fans were gracious enough to tell the story of their Clemson experience!

So you guys were going to....

Oct 8, 2015, 12:47 AM

....HIKE to Seneca after midnight, walking in the weeds on the other side of the guardrail on Hwy 123 in the driving 1000 year rain??????? Missed your bus...Neither phone charged??

Have you lost your ever lovin' mind? Frankly, with Dumb A planning like that, you guys almost deserve to get kidnapped.

I'm glad things worked out for the them and that Robbie was able to give them a hand. Thousands of other people would have done the same thing at the stadium WITHOUT risking life and limb walking over a mile in the dark on 123.

To have him. I'm so thankful Clemson has southern hospitality. If you come to Clemson an don't have a great time it's because you didn't stop to meet the people. No better people on Earth, and I believe that with all my heart. I've been to many places and nowhere matches the friendliness of Clemson.

Being kind and showing love goes a long way with people from anywhere in the world. The more you give the more it comes back and that is why Clemson people are so rich in southern hospitality and love.

Upstate South Carolina is loaded with Good People! Go Tigers! Ranked 6th and I'm enjoying every moment of it. I could get used to being a top 6 team, it just puts a smile on you face. (We are so young too)

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.
