Athens is a big, dirty city, or was 20 years ago, but once you get into the countryside it's great. The whole country is a little smaller than Georgia, so you could drive anywhere in a few hours, but I don't know if that's advisable or not.
The Corinth Canal is a nice stop, but not that much else there
Ditto with the Oracle at Delphi
Had some friends who went to Santori and Crete, but never got there myself.
Nick Cage recommends the island of Cephalonia off the west coast. I passed by on a ship but didn't get to stop.
You might want to avoid the Olympic Village
Sounds like a nice trip though. Mediterranean food is yum. The beaches are usually pebbly so that sucks, but the chics are hot, and more often than not, topless.

Yes, go to the Plaka in Athens.

Go into this tabepna, near the top of the Plaka area below the Acropolis.
Find a table with these Greek dudes. Buy them a bottle of scotch.
They'll buy you a jug of retsina. Tell them you know the guy who painted the painting on the wall. George Savakis. You'll have a great time.
You will see many bars in the Plaka with murals on the walls, and most were painted by George Savakis (rip). He's the dude at the middle of the table. Short guy with the red cap. PS, every person at this table was over 80yo, except us.

Gotta see Athens to see Athens

We did it in a day.
Santorini was a 2 nighter for us. So sick. One day we just rented one of those Polaris side by sides and splored all over the island.
We were in Crete for 2 nights too. One night in the east coast, second night in Chania. In between we road tripped it across the island and stopped in the cave where zeus was born. Kinda sick.
Chania was the place I wish we spent more time at. Place was unreal. Heard the Southside of Crete is where it's at.
Other recs - northern country side and Mykonos. Didn't have the time to hit these.

I had a whole Greece trip planned for June 2020

Covid happened. The plan was to stay on the beach about 45 min from Athens. Go to Athens for a day to see historical sites. Take a ferry to a Mediterranean island another day. Then spend a few days chilling on the beach and in the local town. Prob should plan this trip again.
