But man, is it ever a lesson in just how much we take for granted ... and how *cranky* we tend to get when we have to sleep in a non-air-conditioned 5,000 square foot home that 98% of the world would kill to have, or can't watch College Gameday because our streaming is down.
Let's all be good to one another in these next days, and let's remember that our sense of control is a an illusion held together by tiny little tindrels.
Stay safe out there. Go Tigers.
(P.S.: I don't live in a 5,000 square foot home. I live in a 2,700 one. I could be a billionaire and still wouldn't buy a 5,000 square foot home for my 3-person family.)

We all have gotten a little spoiled!
PSA: There may be at least 2 more. Reports say it could be in the Gulf and /or land sometime during the first few days of October. So keep an eye out.

the more I realize how good we all have it most days, and how much I grumble about stuff I can't control and shouldn't worry with. Like who the president is, or whether my 401k is growing, or whether Coach Swinney's using the transfer portal wisely.
I lived on the Gulf coast for a long time, and with experience, came to appreciate the realities of living on the Gulf coast. It's nice when it's nice and when it's tough, it can be double-tough.

Stock market hit another new high so your 401k should be looking pretty good bc that was a new record high for 3 or 4 time here lately. With the US economy being better than any other country in the world since the world was shut bc of the covid virus, that tells a story that Biden was doing something right these past 4 years regardless of what the Biden haters say!!! Kamala Harris for President if you like watching your retirement funds grow!!!
Also, when you hear Trump crying about the border just remember this, he was laughing when he had speaker of the house Johnson to shoot down the border bill that was equal to the border bill signed by Trump when he was in office, and that bill was put together by both Republicans and the Democrats. By Trump having speaker Johnson to shoot the border bill down, it clearly shows that Trump don't have a clue of what side of the coin that he stands on...

Your 401k (and mine btw) are actually worth less. Works like this: if your account has gone up X% and inflation has gone up Y% then your account is worth X-Y% what it was. Same thing with your wages and purchasing power. So if think you’re better off financially then you have swallowed the bait and it’s really gonna hurt when they (that would be your political party) sets the hook
But don’t take my word for it, read T.Sowell, F. Hayek, M. Friedman &, granddaddy of them all, Adam Smith. I’m guessing you’ve never heard of them or if you have, never read them

Some people are idiots. If 401k is up 12% and inflation 4%, then your money is up 8%. That is good.

and heard the Weather Channel studio guy say Atlanta was going to get hit hard, and went to bed satisfied we'd see some wind and some rain but nothing like we got.
That sucker was moving so fast, though. Just no time for it to lose energy.
Woke up to no power and no internet. Fought our way to Publix and loaded up on SPAM.

Your preaching of the choir here. I’ve traveled to many Third World countries on extended trips, and most people in the United States have no idea how good they have it. And I don’t mean Live going to fancy resorts in poor countries, I mean living with the people. We had to deal with no hot water, no air conditioning, horrible roads, same food pretty much every day, absolutely zero creature comforts. A dishwasher was unheard of, and you pretty much walk everywhere, rain or shine. And we got along just fine.

Kind of a confirmation bias exercise to post this dated Pew study, but I bet it's still reliable.
https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2015/07/09/how-americans-compare-with-the-global-middle-class/
I know that even today, our own household income would make us rich in just about every other country in the world.
I just threw a dozen Angus beef burgers on my auto-lighting propane grill and enjoyed a Macanudo and some good vodka while my wife was in our fully-automated, fully-stocked kitchen baking new potatoes.
My daughter's upstairs with a dude streaming OU/Arkansas and we're down here watching Auburn/OU on our 60" smart TV.
Our air conditioning is ginning along, we've just taken hot showers. The lights are on.
What, exactly, do we have to b*tch about??!! I'm grateful to the Lord who has richly blessed this great nation.

Plus, most people in this country are considerate of their neighbors and don't think that everything around them is just about them, or believe they are the best thing since sliced bread or tell everybody in the neighborhood if it wasn't for themselves the neighborhood would be in total ruins!!!

Power poles down everywhere- a few businesses in town do have power & lines to get gas are insane. About to abandon ship as frozen food is barely cool this morning & several days until power will be back on.

Yesterday, I traveled from Newberry, through Little Mountain, Chapin, Ballentine, Irmo, Harbison, and all the way to Two Notch Road in NE Columbia to find a Generator. I did not see one power crew. Word is that Dominion Energy had there crews mobilized in Georgia and Florida and just returned to SC yesterday along with other state agencies.

obviously after the fact, but look into getting a standby propane generator(generac).got one about 10 years or so ago.worth it for the peace of mind.our area generally isn't involved with too many weather extremes, but they pop up every so often.late 80's we had an early october snow storm and lost power from Sunday through thursday.learned from that experience to be prepared for what mother nature throws at you.

We had a winter storm several years ago at my house near the North Georgia Mountains. I had to send my wife and children to stay at a hotel in a neighboring city, while I stayed at home to take care of our dogs. It took three days to get the power on. I was grateful it wasn’t longer.
