LOL.
If I go stand on the highway, I'd expect to get run over.
Blocking roads and interstates isn't safe for anyone.

than likely. DC could have used something like this, might have prevented those thugs that are in favor of mob rule and hate police from storming the Capitol, and restored some law and order.
I’m all for anything that is anti-riot, as long as it keeps the right to peacefully (actually peaceful) protest.

the Bill basically gives cops the ability to pick and choose who is a rioter and who is a protester. This is the exact opposite of what people are in the streets protesting for, so he is not listening, and he is not awesome, this will likely blow up in his face, and he will get in front of cameras and whine like a child when there is a backlash, accusing eveyone else of being stupid. It has been his MO since he has been in office, sign dumb law, play the victim, point the finger. it is a great sign of leadership.

this was covered a few weeks ago and that was what the legal community agreed on.
and Hog is a derp, Desantisis is not a threat for the whtehouse , His voice has the natural intonation and timbre of a 15 year old girl that just had her cell phone taken away, that wont work in a primary. Consider him ya'lls Michael Dukakis, smart, but no charisma. He'll probably end up in the Senate at some point like his predecessor.

I just do not see a national appeal with him, but then again trump won. But Desantis has NO charima, dodgy and defensive. trump was bathing in it.
as far as the bill, since you read it, maybe you can save a bunch of us some time. Who determines who is a rioter and who is a protestor? what is the criteria for the charge, and who ultimately makes this charge? Again, you read it so I ask out of expediency for the rest of us that do not have the time, how does this work?.

I see a bill that is placing more power and discretion into a government agency that is already under immense scrutiny for having too much power and discretion, and ironically the very reason these people are protesting to begin with. And if there were a bill that was to allow law enforcement numerous avenues to rack up unwarranted felony convictions, this is it. At times you almost seem naive enough to believe that police actually do their jobs and are not just lazy enough to just round people up and charge them with felonies because the local politics demand it, regardless of the people's whose lives that ruins.
and at t times am absolutely bewildered to see you cheer on further infringements on our rights as citizens, it could be you one day buddy, I mean that is the point here, but I get the sense you are smart enough to understand this, but just kind of prefer the two-tiered criminal justice system you benefit from, for now.

we already have laws on the books for all of this stuff, the issue is conflating protestors with rioting, it raises the stakes of being a peaceful protester by allowing all sort of avenues for law enforcement to interpret. It's sole purpose is to discourage peaceful protests, and I find that rather disturbing.
And quite honestly, there have not been many issues with rioting in Florida, there were a few instances blocking traffic after Stoney Douglas. But as far as the level of violence that has occurred elsewhere, Florida really has no issues.
And again, giving Law Enforcement more discretion to pin felonies on people is never good. You could be jay walking, not knowing there is a protest going on, and get charged for blocking traffic.

with a pro life sign, steps off the cub for one-second cause someone flipped her the bird, and she angrily walks out into the street shaking her sign. Next thing you know granny is in the back of a cruiser being charged with a felony for blocking traffic during a protest, and likely will be a long time before she can vote republican again. You are totally cool with this right?

pointless to argue with you then. If you can not first, see how this has the potential to be used against you, and second, and most importantly, giving the police more unilaterally authority to screw people in the context of peaceful demonstrations is flat out fugging fascist. Again, these laws have the potential to hurt all of us and flies in the face of our proud tradition to freely assemble.

Infringement of what right?
Do's: Protest peacefully. Remain in areas you are told are for peaceful protests. Yell, scream, chant in rhymes, hold signs....do what you will just do it peacefully.
Don'ts: Throw things, assault police or anyone else, start fires, loot, block traffic, infringe on the rights of others.
The "do's" are peaceful protest. The "don'ts" are crimes and get you arrested.

I have a side question...
Apr 20, 2021, 7:48 AM
|
|
(I have no comment on the substance of this bill)
Why is stuff like this always framed as the governor did it? Same thing here in SC. And same thing at the federal level. "The President signed into law..."
I mean, yes, they have to sign it. But the work is done by the legislature. It's their law, they wrote and passed. Why isn't the headline "Florida State legislature passes a law..."?

ahead of time what he is willing to sign and what he isn’t. He meets with Congress ahead of the legislation being drafted, and then the bill is crafted to meet his stated guidelines. He doesn’t determine all the details and everything that goes into it, but he shapes it from a high level. At least that is my understanding.

Yes, it's regarding civil liability. This is the softened version of the original bill.
Affirmative defense in civil action; party convicted of riot.— (1) In a civil action for damages for personal injury, wrongful death, or property damage, it is an affirmative defense that such action arose from an injury or damage sustained by a participant acting in furtherance of a riot. The affirmative defense authorized by this section shall be established by evidence that the participant has been convicted of a riot or an aggravated riot prohibited under s. 870.01, or by proof of the commission of such crime by a preponderance of the evidence.
It's less about how, when, or if it's implemented. It's Desantis making a statement and it resonates with the "all lives splatter" demographic.
