Good point made on Roar a short while

Sep 27, 2021, 1:54 PM

Notable QBs that were early Heisman hopefuls AND also made noise about their great NIL deals are all struggling vs their expected performance expectations…

another good point

I have a feeling marketing departments will respond

Sep 27, 2021, 1:59 PM

accordingly down the road. It was a free for all to get the 'top' players when it was a first year concept but you can bet the corporate marketing budgets will be scrutinized a little more closely going forward. Especially if social media picks up on that and shines a light on poorly spent money. The other aspect I'm interested to see is how many young players in the 2021 money grab have a little trouble with the United States government come mid-April. I guarantee this will happen to at least a few.

domineering force tasked with oppressing all those who dare question your rule?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm glad you asked.

Sep 27, 2021, 2:15 PM

It just shows how easily the concept of money and equality ruins all social structure, whereas a work-for-gruel economy under penalty of death for opposing the single ultimate authority runs much, much smoother. Democracy and capitalism are messy institutions, but necessary evils towards destroying the current system and driving all humanity towards the brutal authoritarian warlord system. We're just watching a small part of that play out with college athletes.

heard that on radio yesterday

Sep 27, 2021, 2:00 PM

they mentioned QBs at OU, Clemson, UNC, So Cal, Miami, etc. Also said a 1st round-caliber DL from Oregon had a big NIL deal and he has sat out ever since playing the 1st game, no one thinks he is injured and unable to play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, this goes back to RH's warlord take.

Sep 27, 2021, 2:41 PM

Bryce Young is playing really good football, because if he doesn't, Nick Saban will summarily execute him on the practice field in front of his parents. Dabo could use some of that.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe he needs a brutal warlord support staff position.

Sep 27, 2021, 2:44 PM

If Tony Elliott is getting two million a year, I figure the brutal warlord position is worth at least five million a year.

I mean, hot take and all by wccp. Anyone wonder

Sep 27, 2021, 2:06 PM

how these NFL guys are even able to operate though, using that same logic?

They ain't posting tweeters for Bojangles. They've got REAL committments for REAL endorsements.

How in the world does all that distraction not make their play go right down the toilet?

And women. Think about the wimmins distraction also.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

maybe if you already got bank

Sep 27, 2021, 2:11 PM

you are less hungry to improve as a player and make it to the NFL, I don't know

Sep 27, 2021, 2:13 PM [ in reply to I mean, hot take and all by wccp. Anyone wonder ]

there's a huge amount of maturity that happens from say, age 18 to age 23 or 24. Sure, some guys can handle it. Lebron is a good example. The vast majority cannot and will find really interesting ways to destroy their future if you give them a few hundred thousand right out of high school.

Sep 27, 2021, 2:46 PM [ in reply to I think I can speak for many, many young men when I say ]

NIL deals are worth. Some have been reported to be big numbers, we don't know much about DJ.

If there is some fact based correlation we can make between NIL money and poor performance, I'm all for it.

Reality is some with NIL perform, some don't. Some without NIL perform, some don't.

We don't have much more to go on than that. IMO it's lazy to blame NIL on DJ's performance.

It ain't like some switch goes off when a kid is drafted. Shoot, many that are drafted aren't even given or making THAT much money anyways.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think anyone is saying it's the #1 problem, but

Sep 27, 2021, 2:59 PM

it's certainly a variable worthy of discussion. I don't think it's a big stretch to say that in a lot of cases that upfront money will probably cost a lot of kids down the line. $10k might as well be a million bucks to a lot, if not most 18-20 year old dudes.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

True. I think his biggest issue IMO is that

Sep 27, 2021, 3:18 PM

last year there were ZERO expectations on him. No pressure.

Now, he's the face of the (or one of the) most recognizable brands in CFB with preseason expectations higher than all but maybe a few teams. He has ALL the expectations, and ALL the pressure. If the stuff about his folks is true (Stinko sr slapping 'round mama after some hennessey then divorce) I could see that being a YUGE distraction to boot.

They have agents managing these engagements.

Sep 27, 2021, 2:46 PM [ in reply to I mean, hot take and all by wccp. Anyone wonder ]

I’m not 100% on this but despite NIL, doesn’t the signing with an agent still negate amateur status?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No

Sep 27, 2021, 3:14 PM

The NIL laws/regulations loosened the rules on agents. I believe the general rule is now that it is ok to have an agent for certain purposes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ah ok thanks.***
