What a difference a week makes...

Seriously, I'm reminded of a fan base from the lesser team in the middle of the state. We played terribly and we got dismantled on National TV. I'm not going to lie about that. However, FSU is a ridiculously talented team; admittedly far better than I gave them credit for a week ago (and fully capable of winning the N.C.) But to have the stadium devoid of any Clemson fans by halftime? Calling for Dabo's head? Wanting Tajh benched? It's a loss - and it hurts, but you think our pain is even comparable to what the team feels? While we're on here horsing around, they're the ones running their butts off and spending countless hours on the field and studying tape. I'm upset by the loss, but I'm EMBARRASSED by how our fans have acted since about 8:45 Saturday night. I've never been more surprised by how fair-weathered our fan base is and how quickly they forget the work our team has put in the last several years to get to the pedestal we put them on a week ago. And yes, I was there the entire game, and was on the field afterwards. It was one (albeit awful) game. Now we take our lumps and move on, pull for Clemson the rest of the year and hope that FSU wins out and takes the National Championship. Anything less than that, and you should probably find a new team to pull for.

Think you might want to find a new team to pull for as you don't talk like a tiger fan.
I was there until the last second of the game. The stadium was NOT devoid of Clemson fans in the third quarter.

I've got plenty of pics. That stadium was: 90% Clemson / 10% FSU to start the game. 75% Clemson / 25% FSU before the half. 50% Clemson / 50% FSU halfway through the 3rd quarter. >5% Clemson / <95% FSU by the end.
The FSU fans all stayed until the end. I bet we had less than 2500 people in the stands by the end. (no exaggeration). There's not much of a sadder sight than to see our players out there, knowing they've lost the game and still playing - in front of a scattering of FSU fans cheering against them - IN OUR HOUSE.

To lose by 10 to 14 points to a better opponent, I can live with. To get SLAUGHTERED like we did, at home on the big stage? This one hurt pretty bad.
Sorry guys, still pretty upset about this one.
Go Tigers! Let's step it up against Maryland!

a beating like that. But dang, it's just sad how quickly our fanbase turns on our team. You'd think at least 20-30% would have stuck around. Can you imagine the outrage if the team literally just quit and walked off the field in the 3rd quarter? So why is it okay for the fans to do it? (Hopefully, you don't refer to Clemson as "we", when we win.) And I expect no gift - I've stuck through worse years than this. Even without a NC trophy, I'd be perfectly happy to go 11-1 and a ticket to the Sugar Bowl.

...what I don't do is try to act like I'm a better fan than any other fan. I didn't go to the game but would have stayed until the end...but that doesn't make me a bigger fan than someone who left. I suspect many had a good ways to travel, young kids, etc....why stay to watch the semiholes celebrate in DV?
You are relatively new here. Please look at the # of posts by the minority that are down on the team & coaches...many aren't tiger fans at all, some are just grinches (dumpers) that were just waiting for our first loss, and others are chicken little and think the sky is falling.

Either way, not making an "I'm a true fan" post. Just pointing out my dismay at how quickly people will pay $200-$300/ticket to see a winning team, then just as quickly jump ship onto the next best thing.

When you pay $200-$300 a ticket you have a right to leave when you want....in fact, even if you got a free ticket you can leave when you want.
The players however are on scholarship and can't leave when they want, that's why the players "stayed to the end" and didn't quit/leave. Show me a player who quits and won't play and I'll show you a freed up scholarship and a player who ruined his reputation with any potential NFL job.
There is not a fan base in the country that would sit through that dumpster fire till the end.....the majority of fans of any team are gone by the 4th quarter when you're getting beat like that.

Why you shouldn't pull for FSU!!!
Oct 22, 2013, 1:24 PM
|
|
I hate reading people who say they want FSU to win the National Championship!!! This irks the crap out of me! Why should we pull for FSU? FSU is our RIVAL folks!!! They are in our conference and worst of all they are in our division of the conference! Saying you want them to win out and win the NC is like saying you don't want Clemson to make the ACC Championship and you don't want us to be able to go into Florida and recruit elite players who grew up watching FSU/Florida/Miami football. Hello if you are a 15-18 year old high school athlete getting recruited by us or the defending National Champs who are you more likely to sign with!?!?! ESPN and the SEC has made this stupid we should pull for our conference bull$h!t notion and IT HAS GOT TO STOP!!!! What you should do is PULL FOR CLEMSON and what's best for CLEMSON if in fact you're a CLEMSON fan!!! And FSU winning a NC does nothing but hurt Clemson worse than Saturday did! Who cares what the rest of the ACC does, you should focus and pull for what Clemson does. This definitely has merit next season once the playoff starts. Boise St played in an awful conference and blew all their competition out of the water, had a 4 team playoff been in place back then do you think they would have been left out of the playoff? I doubt it! My point being, so what if the ACC is weak, if we handle our business weekend and week out and run the table NO WAY Clemson is left out of the 4 team playoff! So please STOP pulling for your rivals and competition to do better and get stronger, it only hurts Clemson more than it helps! Besides do y'all really want to look like the Coots who can only hang their hat on what their conference has done!?!? SEC fans who act like they are a good team because they have a couple good teams in their conference is like acting like you're good at football because you have a few cousins who play college football and 1 or 2 who made it to the NFL. Now with that said, do I think FSU will drop 2 games so we can get back in the ACC Championship? No, I don't think they will. I do believe they are a good enough team to run the table and possibly make it to the NC but I sure as heck DON'T HOPE it happens!!! I hope someone else is able to do what we couldn't do and pops their bubble and they implode from there.

So name another team winning that would make that loss..

look better. From a Clemson standpoint, the only way to make that loss not sting as much is to have them win out. Then we could look back and say, "yea, that was an a55-kicking, but at least it was to the National Champions that year..." If FSU drops the rest of their schedule, what does that say about us? Lastly, I'm sick of the SEC winning the National Championships. If we could get one in our conference - and division - that would make a huge statement over how slim the margin between SEC/ACC has narrowed.

If they drop 2-3 games before the end of the season, it makes that blowout loss look even more terrible for us. However, if they win out, the loss still hurts, but there are benefits for Clemson, even if they seem a long way off at the moment.
More respect for the ACC means more coverage of the conference, better TV opportunities, and basically, at the end of the day, more buzz for Clemson. Put the other night out of mind for a moment. We want to be a premier team in a premier conference, and like it or not, FSU being successful helps that cause.

I don't care how much the loss stings. I will be pulling for everyone to beat FSU. If they drop 2 we are back in the drivers seat. Don't come on here and put down fans for their actions then say you will pull for a team to win when them winning is hurting your team more. I personally would love to say we lost to FSU and still won the #### conference.

I was all for giving Stoudt a couple of series. If he gave us a spark leave him in the game. If he didn't then put Tajh back in and maybe he would have gotten his act together. When a player is benched they are forced to put things in perspective and will usually realize hey I'm not above being benched due to poor performance.
