Good grub question for the true aficionados

Nov 21, 2016, 1:15 PM

It has been many moons since I was able to visit those hills, and yet to top last year's birthday tickets to the Columbia Chicken Kickin, Mrs. Jarhead gave me tickets to this year's game. Hotel booked? Check. Cold weather clothes for the women folk planned?Check. Tailgate food planned? Working on it. My main concern however is dining out. I'm going up Thursday, so that I can show her a bit Friday. That leaves Thurs-Sunday for needing grub. The time I was there was for camp, and obviously ate there. So I would definitely welcome some suggestions on places I need to take her. We will definitely hit the Esso, but past what else?

The Smoking Pig should be on the list.

You're going to have to check when things are open this week, but I would prioritize your dining in this order

1. Sardi's Den
2. Circle M BBQ
3. Smoking Pig
4. Todaros/Peppinos downtown for pizza.
5. Pancho's in Central for Mexican.

Calhoun Corners
Heard Pixie & Bills was good (I never had $ to go)

Never understood people's love for Sardi's.

Peppino's is a must.

Calhoun Corners is more expensive than Pixie and Bill's. But both are really good.

Sardi's has terrific ribs. Goober's has good burgers. Esso is bar food but go there so you can say you did. Walhalla Steakhouse should be on your list (they don't serve steak but have the best fried chicken around). And the Time Drive-in in Seneca is the best greasy spoon you ever ate at.
