From the SEC-type atmosphere surrounding the game days in advance, to the instant classic on the field, Clemson delivered. Not only did the win over Georgia soften the blow of Virginia Tech's loss to Alabama and North Carolina's loss to South Carolina, but Clemson's win made those games all but irrelevant.

With one win over a top-five SEC team -- and no embarrassing losses to FCS teams -- the ACC came out a winner in Week 1. Clemson, a microcosm of the entire conference in its search for respect, as well as its sensitivity to being perceived as failing to deliver on the big stage, has proved it is a program to be taken seriously.

we are Clemson.
we are not the ACC.
sick of "SEC like"
this wasnt our first rodeo....
and it wont be our last.

I'm not thrilled with the comparisons either but

Sep 5, 2013, 12:18 AM

it'd be a lie to say that it isn't on most everyone's mind. Even I myself wanted a W, not just because UGA was a highly ranked team, but partly due to them being in the SEC. It's unfortunate that it is that way but Clemson is doing its part to change the perception of the ACC and it being a 'weak conference.' Teams from the ACC have to step up and start beating these teams for that perception to change. If that can't happen, I'd still be satisfied with ANYONE from any other conference beating an SEC team. I'm sick of the constant SEC homerism from ESPN, I'm sick of the comparisons and sick of hearing about SEC speed, SEC defense, SEC atmosphere, etc. If that is to stop, nonSEC teams must start winning. Until that happens, these comparisons will not go away.

If Clemson continues on the path it is now with a W at the end of the year, I think Clemson will become the beacon of the east as one of those sole universities that is capable of going toe to toe with anyone in the country, and that, as you have suggested, is all that matters.

I can't believe the haters commenting at the end of that article. They are still bringing up the Orange Bowl debacle and saying Clemson can't hang with the SEC, LSU didn't want to be there, UGA has a young defense, and one guy even said that Clemson wants no part of playing teams like LSU, Alabama, and Florida in the regular season. I think it is probably the other way around these days. Plus, isn't it true that Florida hasn't left the state of Florida for an out of conference game in years? I don't think anyone wants any of what Clemson is selling these days. Not saying we are invincible or anything, just saying we can play with anyone in the country.

Deer Heather,

Sep 5, 2013, 12:22 AM

This is not an "SEC atmosphere". This is a CLEMSON atmosphere. Has always been. We invented game atmosphere before it became fashionable. Guys come here to play at CLEMSON, in front of a CLEMSON crowd, to attend CLEMSON university, and to be a part of the CLEMSON family.

Do your homework Heather.

Re: Deer Heather,

Sep 6, 2013, 12:48 PM

I agree wholeheartedly on the sentiment. The issue here is that most of the country hasn't seen Clemson like they did Saturday night. Well guess what? The whole country saw CLEMSON Saturday with College Gameday and that night on the world stage including a never before seen look at Running Down the Hill. The amount of coverage our great university got with those as well as the awesome game that wound up with our Tigers beating an SEC team in UGA will go a long way into making CLEMSON stand on its own merits along with having other teams like FSU, Miami, VT and anyone else who wants to start winning against powerhouse programs. We are at the precipice of greatness. Dabo has laid a foundation that must be built on and hopefully other ACC programs are taking notice and making improvements as we have done. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best.

GO TIGERS!!!
