Big Dog, I think you may have landed where I am on this one. I am a Christian and I appreciate a faith-based coach building the foundation of a faith-based program. I just get a little concerned that somehow it gets presented like it is some sort of competitive advantage when there are plenty of other faith-based coaches and programs out there operating the same way and all enjoy God's love and blessings.
I know this is a touchy subject but I just want to see us put our faith in the best light and recognize that God loves all his children and does not want to lose even one. Football is what people do, it is not who they are...

Do you have any idea how much he gives away? You'd be very pleasantly surprised if you did. It's WAY way way more than 10%. The average American churchgoer gives a little over 3%.
So, what exactly is your criticism?

There are still people that have intelligence, character and integrity and Dabo and Clemson appeals to them. I pray our nation never runs out of those people or we are doomed. I get many will say Dabo makes $10 million a year and doesn't fit that mold, but I suspect Dabo does more good in 1 year than most coaches do in 10.

All of you guys who are cheering Dabo and his god - how would you feel about a college football coach using his position of authority to promote his religion if his god was not your god - if he was saying that he built Clemson's program in Allah's image.
As an employee of the state government, Dabo has a moral obligation to keep his personal religious beliefs out of his professional persona. I am not saying that he can't be a devout christian, but he cannot promote his religion through his job. The separation of church and state was one of the driving forces in our Founders minds when the country was born.

You couldn't be more wrong. The only mention of separation of church and state occurs in Jefferson's correspondence and opinion. The First Amendment ONLY says that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. That means:
* the government will not create an official state religion (as England had, and has)
* the government will not interfere in your right to worship
* the first ten amendments limit GOVERNMENT, not citizens
Dabo has every right to talk religion as much as he wants, or to not mention religion at all. Whether his checks are printed on stock that says Clemson University or if he works for Michelin, he has the right to proclaim his faith as long as it harms no one else and he doesn't spend his time on his job doing non-job things.

1st Amendment

Congress nor any state government cannot prohibite Dabo, nor me for that matter, from free exercise of my religion.
As it says in the Declaration of Independence "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
My rights come from God (big G), not the state.

That quote will be misunderstood by many. Some will interpret it as a cute little soundbite by an unscrupulous salesman.
But, there is no doubt in my mind it was totally off the cuff. He was asked about NIL and how it affected recruiting. He gave a clear and rational explanation of how Clemson had built a foundation even before there was an NIL and how they had built on that foundation so that they can help students who want to earn money while in college. His quote that you alluded to, (paraphrased) "We've built this program on NIL. We are all created in God's name, image, and likeness. That's what we've built this program on and that's what we will continue to build it on." It was just a comment from the heart from a man who knows what he believes and lives what he believes."

It would be a very different discussion since THE central tenet of Christianity is a god who lays down his life for his enemies.
And one of the central aims of Islam is to destroy its enemies.
