GHSA Football

Jul 20, 2020, 10:37 PM

GHSA has delayed football games for two weeks and is planning on a full schedule. The dates for practice were not changed.

Thanks for pointing out that the rest of the football organizations ( college and pros) are weenies!

Actually, the hypocrisy surrounding this is comical. Metro Atlanta schools have opted to go digital because of COVID and the threat to the kids and staff of being "in person", yet football is OK. City of Atlanta schools are looking into providing transportation to and from school for football practice - now mind you, it's too dangerous for these students to ride this same transportation to and from school!

Understand - I am for HS sports and support them 100% but this makes no sense - until you understand the $$$ involved. Football coaches in GA receive stipends (extra pay) for coaching but more importantly, they receive significant $$$$ and perks from their local booster clubs (TDCs) and some of that may not be reported as taxable - wink, wink. Also, it is possible that some college recruiters might find a way to funnel some $$$ to certain programs? Might happen? And lastly, there are "mules and handlers" who might get funneled some $$$ to deliver or at least point certain hi level players to certain programs - all speculation of course - LOL.

My point here is that "being about the kids" is a nice narrative but the reality is "follow the $$, as it will always lead to the truth".

Not even COVID slows that mantra...

One last point - here in GA, many (not all) football coaches "teach" PE and/or hold ISS classes (in school suspension) or other let's just say "non essential" teaching positions. This is fine when students are in school and things are rolling along economically but I would think, common sense, would dictate that these should be the first teachers furloughed if schools go completely digital and there are no sports for the student and no in person classes.

Thus the "need" for HS sports at any cost!

Again, always follow the $$$.....LOL
