Might have a te decommit soon

May 12, 2022, 1:37 PM

and the staff is also still working hard to hang onto Nathaniel Joseph.

Hopefully after the recruiting events in June, we’ll get a few new commits and settle things down.

I think it's obvious that we haven't adjusted to this new landscape of college football. It's hard to see us remaining an elite program over the next few years. Recruiting is is falling off and we still haven't utilized the portal.

adapt or get left behind

May 12, 2022, 2:07 PM

I think Clemson can definitely maintain a top 20 program, but I don't see us being in the playoffs after this year. Too much talent will go to the nfl, and there is not enough behind to replace it.

They will still competitive

Re: adapt or get left behind

May 12, 2022, 2:18 PM

I believe that we have playoff potential the next 2 seasons. We'll have a top 3 defense. The offense needs to be around top 25. But, if we project what we look like in 2023, I can see the playoffs as well.

QB: Klubnik, Vizzina
RB: Shipley, Mafah
WR: Beaux, Antonio
WR: Dacari, Randall
WR: Spector, Taylor
TE: Briningstool, Ennis
LT: Leigh, Miller
LG: Tate, Trotter
OC: Putnam, Linthicum
RG: Pennington, Howard
RT: Mayes, Sadler

DE: Greg, Denhoff
DT: Tre, Capehart
DT: Page, Etinosa
DE: Swint, Zaire
LB: Carter, McCloud
LB: Trotter, Dudley
LB: Bentley, Maguire
CB: Wiggins, Pride
S: Mukuba, Venables
S: Mickens, Covil
CB: Fred, Lukus

Average? I haven't looked but I bet it's a higher rated group

May 15, 2022, 1:29 PM [ in reply to Re: adapt or get left behind ]

Dude, I don't see that as a playoff contending team. What should be a good QB. Very good running backs. Average wide receivers. Average offensive line. Average defensive line. Very good LB core. Average defensive backs. It's possible given the ACC is weak, but that team's gonna struggle.

Re: adapt or get left behind

May 15, 2022, 2:24 PM [ in reply to Re: adapt or get left behind ]

That lineup is best case scenario and assumes major progress from young players. Also, no attrition through the portal, which historically we do not get back proportionally.

I don’t like the NIL/transfer rules as a fan, but we will have to get a star here and there in order to compete on a national level in the future.

Losing competitive advantage in recruiting due to NIL and a perceived diminished prestige after last season makes selective portal adds so much more important.

It seems like just a matter of time before we have a star flirting with schools publicly, like whole Addison fiasco.

If a bidding war breaks out between UGA and Bama over Barrett Carter I would be apocalyptic. It would make me watch more NFL, which as a Jets fan is no fun.

May 13, 2022, 8:36 AM [ in reply to It'd be nice to see us at least try..... ]

I wish that we would try.

In my opinion, Dabo understands that the current system is unsustainable. I believe that he is playing a waiting game because he knows that rules and regulations have to come. Instead of changing your philosophy to match the new landscape, we are holding our heads above water until the NCAA finally does something about it.

But if the current system remains as is, we will continue to get buried in talent. We have just enough talent to compete this year because most of the team are recruits from pre-NIL + portal classes. But we are about to have a roster that is nothing but players from the NIL + portal era. And so far, it's not looking too great. If we're being objective, the 22' class wasn't that great and the 23' class is trending in that same direction.

May 13, 2022, 8:31 AM

The decline of Clemson football

Have you been asleep the last three years? We've declined every year. And we haven't utilized the portal, even though the other elite programs have. They've adjusted. We haven't.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hey bud.. we finished in the top 4 two of the last three

May 13, 2022, 11:46 AM

seasons, and we were #14 in a year without a QB and a plethora of injuries. It had NOTHING to do with the NIL or the portal. We have the 2nd most wins in the country the last 3 years, and no other "elite" made a move past us due to the NIL or portal.

You're freaking out over nothing. The NIL has been illegally used and that will be coming to an end. The portal rules will change as well (sit out a year), but again, nobody has gotten better than us via NIL or the portal. So I ask again, what is your tangible evidence that we've declined in the last 3 years due to NIL or the portal? I'll answer - there is none. We had a down year for obvious reasons, and it had nothing to do with NIL or portal.

Some of you folks are greatly exaggerating this junk about other teams passing us due to the NIL and portal. It's just not true, at all. With good QB play, we'll be right back in the playoffs.. and it's got nothing to do with the NIL or portal, both of which will be regulated sooner rather than later.

Relax man. Clemson will continue to be Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Hey bud.. we finished in the top 4 two of the last three

May 13, 2022, 2:54 PM

I'm freaking out over three straight years of regression and an inability to adapt to the NIL/portal?

Okay.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'll ask again, please show how the NIL and the portal

May 13, 2022, 5:05 PM

have caused a "regression" over the last 3 years.

Explain how they hurt in 2019, when we played for the national championship.

Explain how they hurt when we finished #4 in the country I 2020.

Explain how they caused us to finish with 10 wins again (the 3rd longest steak ever) in 2021.

There is ZERO tie between the NIL and the portal to having the 2nd most wins in the country the last 3 years. Name two better teams over that span.

You are freaking out. Really weird actually.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What makes you think we are still elite?

Re: Might have a te decommit soon

May 12, 2022, 2:20 PM

I think it is going to be very difficult to keep Joseph unfortunately because of NIL. He is electric, not sure I can remember us having anyone with the wiggle that he has, also tremendous burst.

Our best hope for the 2023 class is for the NCAA to very quickly make an example out of A&M or someone very soon. At the very least fire some warning shots to slow some of these collectives down and make schools a little wary.

We are lucky to even make a top 5, 7, 10 list much less get a commitment from the current list of offers.

We have to run the table in 2022 and at the very least make the CFP. Combine this with NIL tightening over the next 6 months and maybe flip a few in December.

Makes me sick saying we are dependent on the NCAA and waiting for it to do the right thing...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Might have a te decommit soon

May 12, 2022, 2:10 PM

The sooner the NCAA starts setting some rules and regulations with all this NIL stuff its always going to be total chaos and flipping back and forth. Things will change eventually to calm it down some, but who knows how long that will be.
