Following his dominant performance Friday in Ohio State's 48-29 win over Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinal, quarterback Justin Fields divulged that he didn't receive a diagnosis for the injury he suffered during the game...
When you look at that play from the time Skalski zeroed in on Fields, the crown of the helmet contact was caused bc Fields spun into the contact. If he hadn't tried to avoid the midsection contact that would have probably knocked all the breath out of him, but it would been just shoulder pad contact. One the defender pulls the trigger for making contact, it's way to late to change that direction, and it seems that refs should have seen in instant replay that there was no intention on James Skalski part to make head contact with Fields, and that it was Fields that turned into the helmet contact.
There needs to be drastic changes with that rule bc, there is a lot incidental contact from a defenders helmet bc of offensive players trying to avoid the full contact of the tackle. Once Skalski initiated his move to make the tackle, there is no way to stop his initiation of the contact, and IMO, there wasn't any purpose to make helmet contact on the tackle of Fields, it was clearly incidental created by Fields attempt to avoid direct contact, so how was that the fault of James Skalski, there isn't!!!!
It WAS INCIDENTAL contact bc of Fields actions to lesson the direct contact, Period!!!! Yes, Skalski head was low, but that was bc his intentions was to make a low body contact tackle as he did to avoid helmet to helmet contact. The way they use the targeting rule, they could call targeting if the defenders helmet hits a players elbow, and that equals full blown BS!!!
If they want to try and stop any head contact, play the game without a helmet, just use leather head covers the way that it was when the game of FB was played in the old days. All the protections given players now, is so they can make more of a physical contact, and that is what has made the sport of FB so popular. If they want to lesson the amount of brutal contact in FB, take away all the protections they have that made it a very physical sport in the first place. There is no head contact targeting rules in soccer is it!!!
