“Generational Players” ... starting to think this may apply

... to Hunter Renfrow.

His absence has been glaring all season. It will still be glaring next season. Probably more so.

Nobody on the team before or since has had his hands or his ability to get open.

During the past few years we’ve had two, and now perhaps three “Generational” QBs in a row.

But, we haven’t had another Hunter Renfrow.

Renfrow made both DW4 and TL16 much more effective.

“Generational” = Renfrow?

What do you think?

Renfrow is more of a "One of One." Even Gruden had to

finally just let him alone, and give him free reign to run routes his way, before he started to be effective for da Raidas. He just intuitively seems to know where to go against zones to be open to receive the ball. Something that he obviously was not able to pass on to his successors here. :(

Him and lack of a TE...

those are great equalizers in a defense to keep the chains moving. Although we did miss him, Im not sure he would have helped on Monday night...we had alot of open WRs that watched the ball sail 3 ft over their heads...nearly got Rodgers killed too.

They also dropped some balls they could have caught. Works both ways.

We were all out of sync. Surprising to see

This idea would hold more water if we didn't eclipse the total offensive stats from his final season.

Also while Bama did cover him, he was essentially a non-factor in the 2018 National Championship win over Bama.

Also, Renfrow got to make the plays in bigger games because he played on better teams but his impact and style of play were not much different than Adam Humphries.

Hunter Renfrow was a great player at Clemson, but to think that our offense doesn't work without him is not exactly true.

I think he was maybe a more mental hurdle to overcome because it seemed that for most of the season we called plays that were much lower percentage plays with the idea that Ross and Higgins could go get anything.

Yes Renfrow was great at what he did, but he also ran a lot of routes that were easy to catch and easy for the QB to throw.

I think more than anything our offensive coaches/Trevor deciding we didn't need to use those routes and type of passes was more of an impact than who was playing his position in his place.

Well that is incisive commentary.

Hiding your face is a great idea.

I think whoever the recruiting coordinator was didn't know

how to fill out a WR roster and just signed the same guy 5 or 6 times instead of trying to sign people who could play the other 2 WR positions, we've got the 9 guy covered, we have one 6 and no slot...Hopefully the new RC can make an adjustment

Hunter Renfrow is a Clemson legend and I would ALWAYS want that guys on my roster. Just have a hard time labeling him generational when he's at best the 6th best wr (Hopkins, Watkins, Williams, Higgins, Ross) we've had in the last decade. I think his closest analog is Julian Edelman (minus the car-hop). Guy you want come playoff/clutch time, but hard to compare him to Julio Jones, Mike Thomas, Nuk, etc.

WR talent and value greater than mere statistics?

I dunno ... just a conversation starter.

For his height/weight, and recruiting rating,....yes.

Inch for inch, and pound for pound, he's the best WR to ever to play at Clemson. Maybe in the country.
