Gamecocks getting their 5th home Game Day, but

Oct 1, 2012, 5:54 PM

1-3 so far, including an absolute beat-down from the "ol ball coach" himself.

I looked back as to how we've done

Oct 1, 2012, 6:00 PM

we've only had it once. about as few as any in the ACC. I'M not big on GD but that does sort of rankle me. the lack of exposure and attention but until we have some great years back to back that is what it is

Was hoping we had a shot @ hosting with Va. Tech coming to town. Now with their 2 losses and unranked....doesn't look like it.

Has nothing to do with us, but our competetion

Oct 1, 2012, 7:22 PM

not our fault they lose. If FSU beats OU last year, they'd been in death Valley. VT wins, they'd been here for the game. If SC and Clemson continue to win, I think they'll be at Clemson. They said they want to come to Clemson, just depends on who wins.

Re: Has nothing to do with us, but our competetion

It's tough to get them in Death Valley in the last week of the season because there are like 10 huge rivalry games played that week. I'm sure they would rather go to Southern California and watch USC kill Notre Dame since they're both having good seasons for the first time in years.

Clemson vs. USC
Florida State vs. Florida
USC vs. Notre Dame
Ohio State vs. Michigan
Alabama vs. Auburn

I think Clemson vs. USC is possible but not likely. It would require both teams to be atleast like 9-2 or 10-1 going into it. Florida State vs. Florida is a big possibility but some people might be up in arms if they go to Dork Campbell twice in one season and Florda appears on THREE Gamedays. USC vs. Notre Dame is most likely I think because they're both going to have good records going into it. Michigan vs. Ohio State is possible unless their sanctions won't allow it (Ohio State.) I'm not sure if that applies there. And Alabama vs. Auburn is possible but also not likely because frankly, Auburn sucks and it will probably be like 54-7.

Well, the ACC in general has had very

few. FSU has had a few, I guess Miami(though I imagine their fans wouldn't bother to come to that either), maybe VaTech and GaTech, though I'm not sure. It seems to be an unpopular opinion on this board, but you probably need the the other conference members to be strong to help our chances. When FSU lost to Oklahoma last year the week before our game, we probably lost a good shot at Game Day. Our only shot this year means we and SCar are still rolling in November.

It has a lot to do with location...

Oct 1, 2012, 7:16 PM [ in reply to I looked back as to how we've done ]

Clemson is a hard Gameday location due to a lack of airport access.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It has a lot to do with location...

Oct 2, 2012, 8:59 AM

Jets can fly into Clemson, so the airport is not the problem.

nonsense, if that was the case

Kind of hard to hide all those slums and trailer parks from a blimp camera shot.

I can't think of many games where we really warranted it.

Oct 1, 2012, 6:24 PM

How many big showdowns have we had in DV in recent memory? Most of the big games have been on the road. Two trips down to Tally (2000, 2012), and a couple of trips to VT (2006, 2011).

Home games though?

2005 Miami - They were roughly top 10, but we were barely ranked IIRC.

2007 BC - A couple of 8-2 teams that were ranked in the teens?

What else?

Yeah 5th in the SEC, 8th in the country and 3 TD better than anything the ACC had to offer. Congrats on your ACC "championship". At this point in the college football world, it means about as much as winning the Sun-Belt.

Re: Much like those 5th place rings, it means zero***

Oct 2, 2012, 12:10 PM

That's a joke. The ACC could lose Clemson, Virginia Tech, and FSU and still put a better product on the field than the Sun Belt Conference. You're not too bright are you?

Let's all begin the chant together on 3. 1....2....3...S-E-C...S-E-C...S-E-C....

the only quasi-nice looking place they have on "campus" is the horseshoe. Thus all the scenic pics you see are of various angles of the same place.

Re: Gamecocks getting their 5th home Game Day, but

Oct 2, 2012, 10:30 AM

The lack of "GAMEDAY" at ACC schools should tell you that the ACC schools basically suck. That's what it is IMO. Honestly, it's sad that Clemson has only hosted once, but it has been very rare for a top 15 Clemson team to be hosting another top 15 ACC team. Heck, Clemson and FSU are the only ranked ACC teams right now... that should tell you something.

The Clemson-USCjr game is a good canidate this year, but it traditionally has been over shadowed by much larger, nationally prominent rival games that weekend. This year we could see that change. I won't root for the coots to go undefeated or anything, but if they are in the top 15, and we win out until then, I think we will get GAMEDAY.

Just my two cents worth...

The coots can't beta georgia. USuCk's wons have come against five teams who have won, on average, less than two games each.
