Always thought of Clemson game days being more family-oriented children-wise..

Nov 22, 2021, 12:28 PM

since I’ve always noticed so many children at Clemson home games, say from 2-16 yrs old, playing ball on the lawns & in the lots..

while-as over the years at USC around their stadium which is surrounded by more businesses & industry and lots of asphalt, etc..I’ve noticed less kids which may not be true or a fair assessment.

Since I’ve not attended a CU-USC game since 2007 (but did drive past WillieB last year on an off game week-end and saw all the super grounds, landscaping & lawn improvements)..

My question is: Do SC football home games seem to be as family-oriented as Clemson’s?

And, another opinion I formed from 1959 to 2007 while at a game there was that there “seemed” to be more adults than kids attended the games than at Clemson.

Plus, with the advent of beer being sold inside their stadium, I read, would that be a another sign that USC has aligned itself to a more adult fan at their games.

Note: This is not to knock on Carolina since my Ex & Daughter attended there and they are good Coots.

Go TiGERS!

Generally speaking, from handjobs being videoed in the stands, to intercourse behind dumpsters during pregame tailgates, to brawls after the sex, there are a lot of, uh, unwholesome aspects to the Coot fan experience.

Not family friendly IMHO.

but there just isn't a lot of "fields" near WB to do anything other than fornicate, bump some cocaine, and get drunk.

In my experience...

uof6c has never been a particularly family-friendly environment.

Too many troublemakers, 40-year-old adolescents, felons, power drinkers and dependents of modern chemistry.

40-year-old adolescents wearing burgundy jerseys.

Fixed it for you.

I have a pretty clear memory of orange overalls. There, put it in context for you.

They've tried to promote both. That's a nice area they built and local news always has pics of kids playing, getting autographs and stuff. But it tends to be leaning more towards younger drinking age adults, so I'd say you're right, more adult oriented.

Most of the coots I've met were the type people our parents warned us about

it appears as though a lot of people are interested in starting a family before South Carolina Home football games

Remember as a kid sliding down the HILL on cardboard as that was more fun than watching a football game. Clemson has always been kid friendly, never more so than today. It is a safe, friendly environment on game days.

Once upon a time yards across SC were decorated this week not for T-day but "the game". It was all in good fun. I guess year after year of getting stomped has made coot fans expose themselves as the a$$holes they are.

Coot game days are like an NFL game day up north. That's why all the yankees (especially ones from New York or Joisey) pick scar as their local bandwagon team.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

It has been years since I have chosen to go to a game in Columbia to a game but the huge difference has always been our stadium is on campus and their's is not. Clemson is a unique place that allows fans to basically take over campus on game Saturday's. Clemson is a special, special place.

-- and take over the small friendly town --
No one will be mugging you in Clemson, the fans will not allow it.

No, nowhere near as compared, at least in recent years. Maybe I was just unlucky on where we were sitting. I no longer have small kids but would not take my grandkids, especially for a night game.

I've never considered the Clemson/ Carolina game kid friendly; it brings out the worst in both fanbases. I took my oldest to 1 game at carolina when he was 10. We rode a bus down and rode in with team/ out with team and we didn't tail gate anywhere. It was still rough in the stands and walking out after we beat them.

I took my student daughter and friends down to watch the game vs Columbia last night.

There have been some improvements directly adjacent to stadium. But most of the parking is still around the nicest warehouses and dumpsters I’ve ever seen. Not really any bad behavior around where we parked, but a lot of heckling on the walk in b4 the game. Not so much after.

But inside the stadium on the visitors side men must still pee on the wall. Floor trough style. Nice.

Columbia needs to gut the remnants of the 1940s fairgrounds stadium that’s still there. Sec money should make that possible.

On the other hand, River Rat Brewery on Shop Rd is a nice place for tailgate. Very welcoming to Tiger fans.

Overall, not kid friendly.

My father graduated from the Citadel in 53 and we've been to a few games at Johnson Hagood including Homecoming and always had a good time .Citadel fans don't have any particularly special tailgating areas other than asphalt and gravel parking lots but they seem to have a good time.Just like at Clemson, a lot of grilling and fried chicken .Not sure what that says about Carolina games . lol
