Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup. I always try to keep some

21

on hand in my cabinets, for situations just like this morning. I woke up with a scratchy throat, which, if left unattended, could worsen into a cold or sinus issues. So, I nuked a bowlful of Campbell's Soup, slurped it up, and Waalaa (Dat's Southern for voila), my throat felt better, and my whole outlook on life improved.

So, since I was temporarily invigorated, I did a Googly search to see if chicken noodle soup actually DOES provide any medicinal benefits, or if that is just Old Crones Tails. Here is what the Internet says, and we ALL know if it is on the Internets, it MUST be true:

Benefits of chicken noodle soup:

Experts agree that chicken noodle soup is a well-balanced meal that not only provides hydration, but also a wide variety of nutrients.

"A good-quality chicken noodle soup is nourishing because of the bone broth, vegetables, and protein-rich meat," says Josh Axe, DC, a certified doctor of natural medicine and clinical nutritionist. "It's packed with a range of macro- and micronutrients, including protein, fiber, B vitamins, vitamin C, amino acids, and more. It also contains powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients."

Research suggests that chicken noodle soup may prove particularly beneficial when you're sick. Some chicken noodle soups contain a compound called carnosine, which a small 2012 study found can prepare the immune system to fight the early stages of flu.

So, there you go. Just one more good reason to slaughter Chickens.
Roar.
Go, Tigers!

Might better check the expiration date on that can before you pop it open. Might not be Mmm Mmm Good anymore.

When I was a young tad coming up, Chicken Noodle soup was a regular thing at the supper table. Grandma took care of us kids in the evening, and soup and a baloney sandwich, or a peanut butter and banana sandwich, or whatever else she could come up with, was on the menu at least twice a week. Something so simple never tasted so good as when grandma fixed it. I don't eat it as much now, as I did then, but we still keep a couple of cans in the pantry.

I was just talking to my brother about that yesterday. I like to throw 4-5 chicken thighs and legs in the crock pot with some celery, carrots and spices. The smell alone makes me feel better

Grew up with those cans in the cupboard too . . .

Nowadays, I make my own, but I do keep chicken broth on hand for just such occasion as a sore throat . . .

Back in my teenage years, my Sis had a long legged beagle she cordially named Bubba . . . One day he ran in front of a car and “got rolled”. I was in the yard playing with friends and saw the incident. I ran and scooped him up and carried him inside to his pallet. His chest fur was split wide open when he was rolled. Knowing there would be no money spent on Vet bills, I began to doctor on him.

No limb injuries, no ribs protruding or caved in, no whimpering. He laid quietly as if asleep with his eyes open. I cleaned the dirt and gravel out of his gapping wound and lathered it with an antibiotic ointment I found. When Dad got home, he said I had “done good”. He also said I could continue “doctoring” as long as infection didn’t set in and Bubba remained calm and cooperative.

Long story to say, Chicken and Stars Soup . . . dripped into his mouth 3 stars at a time kept Bubba alive until he could rise and eat for himself. It took a couple of weeks and several cans of soup.

Chicken Soup is good for Soul . . . and can save a dogs life!!!

my mom use to make her own too.actually put yellow chicken feet in to the mix.mom, dad, and sister would eat them too.NOT me!did find a simple, easy recipe a few years ago for chicken soup with rice and tenders, which if you cook slowly turns into a stew.the rice falls apart and thickens the broth into a gravy.great on a cold day.

My Mom worked for Campbell's Soup when I was in junior high and high school. The company store would sell six packs of soup wrapped in brown paper for a dollar. The cans had no labels. The cans were marked with magic marker with the contents of the cans. They also sold cheap Pepperidge Farm products and Swanson TV dinners. That was the majority of what I ate.

A Cute Story . . .

about the “Campbell Soup Store” . . . As you stated it was for employees and you needed an employee card to present upon entrance to shop there. Those items you mentioned were a staple in my young married life as we oftentimes “borrowed” an employee’s card and visited. (The raspberry filled dark Godiva Chocolate was heavenly!!!)

I have two children, both boys, Forrest and Kimball . . . Kimball being my oldest. When we loaded the car to journey to the Campbell Soup Store one Friday, my youngest son (he was probably 2 years old at the time) said, “When I dit older, we can go to ‘Fo-wess Sooop Stow’ and dit sum sooop.”

He thought we were saying “Kimball Soup Store” . . . He was such an inquisitive, imaginative child.

76er® hope today has been a “good back day” for you . . . I know they don’t come around often, but I still hope you had one.

Thanks for the encouragement. I did venture out of the house for about 15 minutes today, long enough to install a five foot long turnbuckle on the back pool fence vinyl gate that was sagging. Pretty pitiful that that is about all I could stand, but hey, it's better than nothing at this point!

Had to enlist wife and No. 2 son to hold drills, wrenches, etc, so that I didn't have to make a bunch of trips in and out of the shop, so that I could get the job done. They had to hold the turnbuckle in place long enough for me to mark holes for drilling, and until I could get a couple screws into it. That alone just reminded me that there are a whole lot of people in the world that are not in the least mechanically reclined. But, they tried, and that's what counts.

You need hydration after you have a can. Store bought soup is loaded with Sodium.

Yep. That is about the only drawback. It does have a lot of sodium. When I was a kid my mom’s home remedy for any type of cold or sore throat was to gargle with hot salt water. As hot and as salty as you could stand. Maybe the salt is good for you in this instance.

I know, but I consider any diet that doesn't include a LOT

of salt to be patently un-Amurican. Or, at the very LEAST, un-Suthurn.
