Did I get a WHATADEAL or fuqqued?

Feb 28, 2022, 10:56 AM

Wife went to Office Depot to get party invitations printed. They had the Nest Wifi Router and Point on-sale in the store, it was $161 versus $269 everywhere else. Unopened and I couldn't find that price anywhere else online, it even surprised the lady working there. I bought it on a whim, wanting better wifi at the house. Did I get had on some technology that is about to be replaced or is this a great deal. They had one more in Rock Hill, if'n someone else wants it.

I'm currently running 2 of the routers (not the point) with

Feb 28, 2022, 11:03 AM

only a wireless connection between them to cover 3ksqft. In the same room as the router I can get 500-600mbps, in the backyard it's around 100-150. I have 40 or so devices connected and haven't even had to power cycle the router since I installed it.

It's not the latest/greatest tech (lacks Wifi-6), but it's solid and easy to configure. I'm adding a wire in between the two routers and have a third on order that I'll install soon to better cover the garage and yard.

There's also automation built-in to the Google Wifi system so I can trigger things like outside lights going full bright when my wife's phone connects when she pulls in the driveway.

The sale I normally see on those is 2 of the AC2200 routers for $200.

The router plus point combo is wireless connection only, so try a few locations for the smaller unit to see what works best.

They actually turned out really nice. Oh, you didn’t get yours? What a shame.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know this. She didn't tell me what they cost

but daughter is turning 11 and hasn't had a birthday party in a couple years

It was literally printing 7 sheets of 8.5x11 sheets of paper

in color. There is no way it was more than $30 and that is a stretch.

$200?? You getting robbed.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, I was way off

Feb 28, 2022, 1:02 PM

$20 total.

I think their Mesh system is really solid

Feb 28, 2022, 11:39 AM

Bought mine about a year and a half ago as I had a few dead spots, very easy setup and seems to be much more reliable than repeaters/extenders I've used in the past

Love mine. You should be great

Feb 28, 2022, 11:55 AM

I probably need one additional point and my whole house will be covered without a decrease in signal.

Please forgive me, @IneligibleUser

I got the same thing about 2 years ago as a gift

Feb 28, 2022, 11:55 AM

I think it was around $300 then. It's ok. The pointer put wifi extended the internet to places I didn't have it before and plus they act like an Alexa, but the google version. I just keep getting disconnected from it on my phone which I never had a problem with before. Doesn't matter how close or far I am from it. Could be sitting literally 3 feet from the router.

Maybe it’s your fat, danglin hog leg of a signal blocker

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

What do you want me to do, cut it off?

Then why do I need the internet if I can't Jay O?

That’s pretty solid.

I’ve heard of people paying double and triple that to let Google have visibility into every single packet of their network traffic.

Well, before that it was Netgear and other options are

Feb 28, 2022, 1:06 PM

going to do the same. I suppose DuckDuckGo makes routers these days?

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’m just joshing you, but the diff is Netgear’s

Feb 28, 2022, 1:13 PM

Core business commodity isn’t data about you…Google’s is—-they didn’t get into the router game because they thought hardware was lucrative.

I assume the Google Home(s) and Siri(s) placed throughout

Feb 28, 2022, 1:35 PM

my life can be super bored, so can the router. I might get more targeted advertising, but otherwise they know everything already.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I bought the Netgear Nighthawk mesh system when everyone

Feb 28, 2022, 1:22 PM

was at home streaming at the same time. It was life changing. We weren't really having issues with everyone streaming video at the same time, as soon as we had 2-3 meetings going on it overloaded our outgoing bandwidth. No issues now.

Most people complain about the isp being slow, but in most cases it's their router.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Both. Good deal and Google now knows even more about you.***
