FSU/Clemson should be in different divisions

Dec 10, 2013, 10:07 PM

Would bring some meaning to the ACC championship game which hasn't had great matchups recently.

Agree, but not so sure it would have mattered this year

Dec 10, 2013, 10:15 PM

Can anyone tell me how many times the ACC CG has been a rematch of a regular season game? I think we have been involved in two of those. Has that ever happened in the SEC?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes

I was a graduate student at Tennessee in 2001. Tennessee beat LSU during the regular season and lost the SEC championhip game in the rematch, costing them a shot at the national championship. Fortunately for them, they got to play Michigan and handed them their worst bowl loss in history. They would have gotten pounded by Miami in the title game. Although any team would have gotten pounded by Miami that year. I am 34 years old and that is by far the best team I have ever seen.

South Carolina narrowly lost at Auburn earlier in the season

then got destroyed in the championship game.

What are you talking about?

Poster asked if regular season Champ game rematches ever

happened in the SEC. It happened in 2010 when SC lost to Auburn, then got roasted by them in the title game that year.

Clemson v FlaSt would be the Championship matchup

Dec 10, 2013, 11:21 PM

3 years out of every 4, and as such if they were in different divisions, the ACC would probably be hesitant to schedule them during the regular season.....or maybe not, two marquis matchups between the Tigers and Seminoles would be better than one for tv

Agreed. This year, Duke played FSU as good as we did. I wish I could forget that game.

I would prefer to see divisions created every season based on performance. (rather than being pre-determined)

I would also prefer to see conferences created based exclusively on geography.

the current conference organization is getting out of control IMO.

LSU and Bama fans feel the same way.

Dec 11, 2013, 12:07 AM

Along with UF an UT.

It just is what it is. We've no more control over which division we are in than which conference we are in. Control that which you can and deal with what's left.

the original set up was to pit Miami and FSU against one another each season.

It is all relevant. It looks like the West is the heavy hitter in the SEC, but it is the East that holds the most conference Championships.

The winner would go to a playoff game every year***

BC has won the division twice. Wake once

Dec 11, 2013, 8:47 AM

Atlantic has won the ACCCG five times. Coastal has won four of the nine.

2010 losing season.

I think this is a down cycle for the Coastal Division. Miami and Va Tech will be back and their game against each other and then the winner's game against either FSU or Clemson will be a premiere match-up. Right now it looks lopsided but it'll work itself out.

FSU/Clemson

Keep them in the same division. As a division rival, they visit DEATH VALLEY every other year and that is

important to sell season tickets in years when the USC game is in Columbia. FSU is also the only ACC school that brings a large following to Clemson. If FSU and Clemson are split up, FSU will only visit once every 12 years.
