Friend of mine's son is a victim of anti-Asian hate. Help?

Mar 19, 2021, 8:15 AM

Help me understand it.

I have seen the accounts of anti-Asian violence around the country. Haven't paid much attention because frankly I haven't seen it.

But a friend of mine's adopted son works at Chick-fil-A and he has had a drink thrown at him and in the drive through a man asked if he could be served by someone else because he didn't want to be served by "a yellow".

What in the actual phuque?

I don't get it. Is this a redneck thing because they think the Chinese started the COVID?

Where did this start? Was it Trump talking about Chi-NAH? Or some other source?

Seriously just trying to learn more about it.

Speaking of shouting into the void...

Mar 19, 2021, 9:31 AM

How do you know this? Are you just taking the murderer for his word? Seems unlikely that he would cop to a racially motivated hate crime, what with the harsher penalties in our justice system.

I don’t think anyone can say for sure what this guy had going on his head when he murdered 8 women, but to completely dismiss the idea of a racial motive is equally as counterproductive as definitively claiming that it was racially motivated.

Maybe just cool your jets, wait for some more information, and then make a determination.

if you read any news at all you will find out that he was a sex addict. He saw these massage parlors as his ultimate sin and his ultimate temptation. Who happens to work at these massage parlors? Care to guess, yes, people from Asian decent, these happened to be Korean. He did this cause he thought in his looney mind that he was saving us all from this addiction.

Its all over the place, its recorded, but its not the narrative everyone wants, so they close their ears.

Re: alright Chief, listen up

Mar 19, 2021, 11:58 AM

Sure, I’m interested to see what the arguments are on both sides of the case. I don’t claim to know which charges against chauvin are the most accurate.

But considering that both the county medical examiner and independent autopsy reports ruled that George Floyd’s death was a homicide, I can come to a conclusion that Chauvin was at least somewhat complicit in his death.

Any other cases you want to go over?

CNNs headline yesterday blamed it on white supremacy and Trump.

I don't disagree - I think there are probably some non-racial incidents that are getting lumped into the other.

OTOH, How many of the types of racial bullyshitt that the OP is talking about go unreported - I would think more than the number of mislabeled incidents.

I really do not understand how anyone can be so cretinous and despicable as to attack Americans because of some perceived ethnic connection to a virus (that knows no national allegiance).

Have we learned NO lessons from our history ??

Mar 19, 2021, 10:17 AM

I've just noticed that when you see these videos of Asians getting pushed down - it's usually done by a black person. That's why I said it was an anecdotal observation.

You saw that my stat about murders in the US by blacks was a fact. How is stating facts pointing fingers? I was merely pointing out they had some introspection that needs to be done in their community and everything that happens to them is not due to racism.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: No. I told you exactly where I got that piece of info.

Mar 19, 2021, 2:44 PM

But that's purely anecdotal and not real evidence.

I know where you get the stat from. I'm not disputing the stat that more are arrested and convicted of murder.

My question is why you harp on it so much. And this question: Why do you personally think more black people are convicted of murder or why more black people commit murder?

I literally said - Anecdotally - which means "This is

anecdotal" - I wasn't offering it as evidence.

I harp on it so much - I think - because I'm weary of the media telling me that blacks are being hunted down in the streets. I'm naive; I've never seen this; I want to be shown some examples. Well, the examples are criminals that are resisting arrest and getting shot because of it. It bothers me that they don't take a tad of responsibility for what happened.

More black males are convicted of murder because they commit more murder.

Why more commit murder? I think many black males are never taught to embrace the opportunity that an education offers. That dooms them to lower-tier jobs, frustration grows (especially with people telling them it's not their fault, but that they are victims), and some turn to violence. Rinse and repeat.

I wish programs like Clemson's "Call me Mister" existed in middle school...

Re: You seem a little quick...

Mar 19, 2021, 10:22 AM [ in reply to You seem a little quick... ]

They are generally black people in all of the videos and the people being arrested are usually black who are attacking the Asians with physical violence. It's not all black people, but the vast majority are. That's with anecdotal evidence though.

Re: well, it is.....so I am not sure of your point

Mar 19, 2021, 10:01 AM [ in reply to well, it is.....so I am not sure of your point ]

The point is that rhetoric has consequences.

Yeah, at the very least, the ineptitude and lack of transparency of the Chinese government helped loose the worst pandemic of the last 100 years on the world and killed more than half a million Americans, and completely wrecked our economy. And we're definitely escalating towards a new Cold War with them in the Pacific Rim, and their trade practices more closely resemble actual piracy. Not going to argue with any of that.

But there's a way to stand up to the Chinese without putting a bulls-eye on every Asian-American, too, because we didn't watch the words we used.

Trump didn't. We're starting to see the cost of that already.

There was an article earlier that I read about some Asian lady in her 70's who got attacked in San Francisco by some stranger. She grabbed a stick of some sort and put the attacker in the hospital. It was great. She was still trying to get at him while he was on the stretcher with EMS. She had a messed up eye and was bleeding, but still going after the dude. One thing that is not been mentioned in the media, and from a former Coworker that moved from Portland, is that there is a lot of resentment towards Asian Business Owners in Portland and Seattle. The Koreans and Chinese are buying up everything for Air BnB and creating a housing shortage. If you already own, you are dong great, if you are a young couple looking to buy a starter home with a reasonable commute, good luck.

Starting last year, particularly around the time of the election, you started to see even on places like this forum more China this, China that, CCP this, Xiden, blah blah etc etc. It starts, gets ramped up on right wing media, then revolves around and around in the bubble.

Think back to before 2020. There was some trade-war type stuff, a WSJ article here and there, but not the daily "Democrats turning us into Chi-com" stuff you see these days.

"I would rather believe that this child who I've never met before is a liar, than believe Asian-Americans are discriminated against."

My niece was adopted from China

Mar 19, 2021, 1:27 PM

the only "discrimination" she's ever faced is being "picked on" because she blows the curves in all of her classes.

She gets told she's only smart because she's Asian, which may or may not be true. My sister thinks it's because she's a great mom, which she is.. but my sister was definitely not the smartest kid in the family and my bro in law wasn't exactly known for his academic performance so...

You don't know what discrimination or racist comments she has heard. I am sure there are tons. My brother is half Japanese and my stepdad(RIP) was Japanese. I heard shyatt all the time that was unacceptable. Even telling a kid they are smart just because they are Asian is unacceptable.

Adults are brutal towards Asians too. I agree there are a lot of pansies these days, but Asians take a bunch of abuse.
