Friday night, did anyone else notice that 99% of the time,

Oct 18, 2021, 10:56 AM

the center raised his left arm and half a second later the ball was snapped? Can we at least mix that up a little? If I was a DC, I'd take advantage.

I’m not sure what you are specifically referring to but the center is typically pointing at the defense and yelling to his fellow linemen. This is to communicate what he sees and for the other linemen to know each other’s assignments. No different than Skalski screaming and making hand signals to everyone after he sees the formation.

Sounds like the point is even if he's pointing at the hot cheerleaders he needs to vary what he's doing. And of course one of the issues is that by the time they do snap the ball there's only a second left on the play clock so he has little time to work with anyway.

Noticed this a few years ago.

Not sure why they do it.

I agree that by doing this regularly the center is providing the defense the ability to jump the snap count. I agree with you again that the center should occasionally wait 3 (or more) seconds after pointing to snap the ball to keep the defense in check.

Unless there were exactly 100 plays ran, I’m not sure how this is mathematically possible.
