Free throws in league play

4

Jan 5, 2023, 8:45 AM

In four league wins, the Clemson men's basketball team has hit 73 of 80 free throw attempts. That's 91.25%.

I repeat: Clemson men's basketball. Free throws.

In my lifetime.

Lordy.

Fantastic, although unsustainable.

Brownell coached teams are usually solid at free throws. A stark difference between OP coached teams.

It wasn't just OP coached teams that couldn't shot - most Clemson teams of the past weren't very good at it.

checked the stats before VT and I think we were top 3 pt shooting team in ACC and near top in FT's based on season to date stats. Really nice to see how good we are with those FT's in tight games at crunch time

Wow!

I've been watching Tiger bb since 1986. How many times have we lost games -- over how many decades -- because of poor free throw shooting.

I'll give Brad credit on that one.

I mentioned this in another post. Has historically been one of the most frustrating things about Tiger B-ball. Free throws should be pretty much automatic. I played A LOT of basketball when I was younger and it is purely a matter of practice. My son would get mad shooting free throws with me because I could hit 3/5 with my eyes closed. If you practice enough the motion is automatic.

One other note on the current streak

1

I'd almost forgotten how hot we ended last season, winning our last four regular-season games and the first ACCT game before losing in OT to the eventual champions, VT.

So dating back to last year, Clemson has won eight straight ACC regular season games, and 9 of 10 conference games overall.

Has such a streak EVER happened?
