As anticipated, the Volunteers have been fined for multiple SEC violations following the school’s upset over the Crimson Tide.

Forgot about the rule that the SEC doesn’t allow fans to be in the area of competition post game. IF Clemson were to join as some people say we will, this would have to be addressed. While I personally don’t mind us joining the SEC as there are pros and cons whether we do or stay put, I for one sure hope we don’t lose the storming the field after each game. That’s part of our history, culture, and one of the oodles of things that makes Clemson different and great. Keeps us connected in a way with the program.

Of course on a lower level but still another thing that made us different, I hated to lose the tradition of releasing the balloons, but we hung that up too, to satisfy the ‘planet is about to implode upon itself’ religion. But I digress.

I think that before very long the practice of spectators going onto the field will be ended by consensus agreement. I will not support such a consensus, but I would comply with it. There have been fights on the fields of play in every sport. The consensus will be to take fans out of such inappropriate
situations where they will one day be violence or injury again.

I have been going to our games for 60 years. I know what our traditions are and I respect them. But traditions change. We have given up significant traditions in the past and we will give them up in the future. So have many many other schools.

The change when it comes will actually impact relatively few Clemson fans. 80,000 in the stands. How many on the field?

Perhaps the field rushers, the balloon lovers, the people who leave the stadium at half time,those dead set against anyone buying beer inside the stadium, those still pissed that women get too much bathroom space at the expense of males, all the newly rich who are really angry about old fans'owning' lower bowl seats cheaply, the fans of umbrellas in the stadium, those who really really miss cigarettes in the stands, everyone who hates late night games, the people who want every game to start at 1 pm like they should,those who are really really sure that a family of 4 should be able to go to a game for less than $100, and those who want Dabo to change a lot of what he does can all get together for a big rally to show their strength in their numbers.

I will not attend such a rally. I'll be happy with the majority of Clemson fans who are really really happy with all the games we win these days and who don't give a flip about all those things that make so many others angry.
