Forgive my ignorance but

Nov 21, 2021, 10:02 AM

If the loss to UNC that Wake suffered does not count against their conference record because UNC is not their designated cross conference rival, then how did the Pitt loss count as a conference loss for Clemson? I thought that Georgia Tech was our cross conference rival. Can someone help me understand?

Each ACC team plays an 8 game conference schedule

Wake-UNC was not on the conference schedule. The ACC approved them each playing a 9th game against a conference member but the game being played as a non-conference game.

Gotcha. Was that due to COVID scheduling issues?

No, because not scheduled as an ACC game, two

state rivals wanting to play anyway.

Win/win.

It's because it was the 9th ACC opponent games that wake/unc agreed upon to keep an instate rivalry going. Wake's cross division conf games were Duke and UVA

It's because the conference didn't schedule Wake's game with UNC. Both schools had an opening on their schedules and agreed to play each other as a non-conference game, kind of like us playing the coots.

That was an inane decision by the ACC scheduling officials to allow this to happen. It should not be a precedent and should not ever be allowed or ruled to happen again. A conference loss should always be a de jure conference loss.

Why? If both schools want it, it's great.***

to me the conference was best when you played everyone every year in football. Doing more of these and cutting down on long gaps between playing would add interest.
