Someone Tried to Use My Mastercard

Dec 26, 2019, 12:11 PM

When my daughter and I returned home late Christmas day we had a message on our phone from our bank questioning a purchase on our account and needed our approval for payment. It was in some foreign country (They didn't specify) in amount of $284.00. Thanks to someone's being alert at the switch, they saved me a few dollars.

Glad it was caught and hopefully prosecuted

When I was 18, I had someone from Michigan steal my identity and take out two credit cards in my name. Oddly enough, they made every payment and boosted my credit score. The rare crime where there were no victims.

That’s the funniest thing I’ve read today!***

and this has happened to me numerous times over the years on both my corporate cards and personal cards.

I’ve seen this happen to coworkers traveling in Europe. It used to be the wait staff would take your card to the counter or back room to process payment. I always figured that’s when the thieves would scan the card for future use. Now days I they typically bring the card reader to your table so at least to card never leaves your sight.

These days, most banks, I think, will cover you for things like that if you report it early. My bank actually froze my debit card before someone, who stole my info, tried using the number to withdraw cash from an atm in a town we had been to days before. The bank actually called me to ask for confirmation on the attempts. After I denied the transactions they shut the card down and sent me a new one. My wife has been refunded for transactions she didn’t make.

Had my credit card stolen. Didn't report it stolen for over a yr. When I finally reported it, bank asked me why I waited so so. I told them that whoever stole it was using it less than my wife.

Happened to me three weeks ago. Bank reversed charges. They caught it when the actual physical card was being used in several states at same time to buy gas. Guess it got cloned somehow.

About two years ago someone got access to my card. They were in California, ordered something from Amazon and had it delivered to their home. Was not a smart move on their part. Easy solution. Must have been a Gamecock fan.

Ford Parts Giant

Jan 3, 2020, 11:42 AM

I used a debit card for a new rear bumper on my F350.
Some doorknob rear ended me and split, minus headlights and a functioning radiator albeit.

I hadn't used my debit card for about a month prior (I know, that was a rarity), then about a week later I evidently bought train tickets in Belgium and Luxembourg.
Got that cancelled right away, hopefully they were thrown off the train somewhere in Poland.

Called Ford Parts Giant and told them they had been hacked, they were all like, "Uh we did?"

Watch your debit and credit cards with waiter and waitress's. They have been known to hide a "Fingertip Scanner" in their aprons. As they are carrying your card up to the register they swipe it through the mag strip scanner.
Newer scanners even take a picture of your Auth Code.
A Week later their handler picks up the full scanner and drops off a blank scanner and a couple of hundred bucks.
For this reason you should always walk your card up to the register and hand it to them at the register. Never let it out of your sight.

This info is from Infragard, A group of IT security professionals under the guidance and advice of the FBI.

Not sure what is going on in that state.
