For the "doubters" of Clemson's market value...

Scroll down to the market totals, look who's sitting right there at number 10...

More Circumstance than fandom

SEC expanded to new markets in Texas and Missouri, not into markets it still owns. If the ACC were to blow up, the SEC if it were to follow the trend it started would likely look to North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland where they don't have teams or a footprint in those markets. That lack of a footprint is what would make Clemson attractive to the Big 12.

I thought the goal would be to add more viewers?

According to the article, Clemson would bring more viewers than say North Carolina. You can be in every market in the US, but advertisers buy based upon how many people are watching. It doesn't matter what market you are in if no one is watching. The SEC would take Clemson and FSU in a heartbeat, but USC and Florida do not want it. That is why we will not be in the SEC, not markets.

I believe the Big 12 can make a powerplay into the South by adding Clemson, FSU, Miami and VT. That would give them a product to compete with the SEC in their own backyard.

Did you read the article the OP linked?***

Yes UNC might be a better choice since they do things the SEC way

Posted this in another thread, but it seems more appropriate here. Sorry for the duplication.

Agree with most of what you say, but here's the end all, be all answer as to WHY certain teams are more attractive than others despite culture, team brand, etc...
This is from a 2010 article about the Big10 Network

"Cable television analyst Mike Reynolds of Multichannel News estimated that the Big Ten is getting a subscription fee of 70 cents per month per subscriber within that eight-state Big Ten region. Outside of that area, he says, the fee drops to 10 cents"

Simple as that. It's all about being in a position to form your own network. The SEC will eventually do that. So multiply 70 cents times the subscribers in NC or VA vs 10 cents a subscriber that they already have in SC.

That math is why Clemson will never get invited to the SEC. Period. Stop.

Great post. If I were the AD at Clemson I would put salesmen

on jets to every school in the SEC and Big 12 with a copy of that. And I would personally take it to the ACC commissioner's office! My first words would be," Uhm, look here, you see these stats. Well,Clemson University demands your respect. Tell me where you are going to start!".

I think the use of google searches hurts the southern schools (CLEMSON INCLUDED)! The avid fan is simply not going to have to search for their team info, they know where to go. This poll really gives you a better picture of casual followers for each team(explains why schools like BC poll might do well on this survey. That's why SC does not show up, beyond their core fan base, no one knows or cares about them.
Look is Clemson really this high, who knows, but I made this point before, college football fans are interested in Clemson football.
