It's downright sad.
Romney hasn't changed one bit and in a relatively short time period went from being the nominee of the party to outcast (to the loud crazies at least). There is little room for principle and country before party right now and this is a perfect illustration of it.

The Senate is give Advice and Consent power. The process wasn't intended to be political...but rather to have the Senate have a check on the POTUS to make sure the nominee was qualified. Not to render a direct vote on ideology. See The Federalist (76 I think) where Hamilton laid it out well.
Study the history of SCOTUS nominees and you'll see that party-line votes are primarily a recent occurrence. Nominees were not always confirmed, but it was normally not because they were nominated by someone from the other party. Elected officials are in office to serve the public and the country and not to strictly serve a party. Being a conservative means (and should mean) having respect for the Constitution and institutional principles.

Personally, I believe we need more sane, moderate Republicans. The democrats will vote for them like they did in 08 and 12.
My bad, in both of those elections the moderate, sane Republicans were taken to the woodshed.
I'm a liberal but not a hack. Don't be fooled by dems who claim they'd consider voting for a sane republican as President.

Supposedly Romney is considering a run at the presidency via the 3rd party route.
If he can find enough campaign donors to pull this off, then this will be Romney's final stab-in-the-back to the Republicans that he so privately despises.

Mitt Romney, like most public virtue-signallers who are actually closet bigots, pandered to Black Lives Matters protesters in 2020.
Romney did not condemn their violence and destruction of private business owners property (nor did he condemn BLM's destruction of public property) during their numerous and widespread rampages in 2020. We've all known of these people ... fearful that speaking the truth will lead to them being exposed as closet bigots.
For those who don't know this (and it doesn't take much to research it), BLM is a very poor charity as far as controlling admin. costs. According to "Impactful Ninja" site, BLM isn't in the top 10 among charities who fight for racial equality. BLM is anti-traditional-family, and their executives have somehow come up with several millions to spend on their own personal homes. A well-meaning non-profit? What a joke. BLM is a disgrace as a charity that lives off of its terrific name.
If Romney were a "conservative" and also not a closet bigot fearful of being exposed, then he would not pander to a minority group that misbehaves.
True conservatives are not bigots (they believe that no one should be excluded from the opportunity to compete), and true conservatives do not applaud or support wastefulness.
Romney fails on both counts. Many people don't like Trump, but he isn't a bigot and supports anyone being given the chance to compete in order to have the chance to be successful.

And how is participating in a march considered pandering? Given his father's history, how can you not consider he might actually agree with the point of the march in reaction to George Floyd's killing?

Romney, Collins and Murkowski are the Republican equivalent of Manchin and Sinema on the Democratic side. They are the ones that will more likely crossover and vote with the other party. Most of these cats in Congress will not vote their conscience and will just fall in line with their party. They want to keep those cushy jobs in Congress.
