Jackie Gore was a friend of my family back in the day. I remember going to see them at the Coquina Club at the Landmark Hotel in Myrtle when I was way too young to have been in there.

I remember his floor show also and the Raymond Massey character. Whenever we drive to the beach and get close to Conway, I think about that character being from UCLA (Upper-Conway, Lower-Aynor).

Thanks for posting, made my morning. Back in the day Greenwood, SC had a night club called Starnes Club Forest which had the best juke box in the state. First to have external speakers that I know of. All beach music. Several years ago several Greenwood friends put together a collection of cds featuring the music of Starnes. Wish I could tell you how to purchase the collection, but it was a limited edition. I have the first three releases and used to keep them in my vehicle, but with modern technology there is no cd player in my new car. Miss listening to them.

I'm an old Starne's man from Greenwood.
Jim Martin put those CD's together for everyone and had a Starne's Reunion at Howard's downtown G'wood!

Great Music, really miss there aren't the same number of venues around however, there are still some pretty good places in Pawleys and Murrells Inlet.
Saw the Embers play in a wedding in Charleston circa 1982 or so... Jimmy Buffett was a guest at the wedding. The last place I saw the Embers was a private function in Salters, SC... four years ago. Their still good.

In the day the place to be was THE PAD in Ocean Drive.
If you could pretend to "Shag" you could meet girls.
When they tore it down, took a board home and have it mounted in my RedNeck Bar.
