The first felony conviction for a Capital Rioter is 8 months

Jul 19, 2021, 6:47 PM

Do y'all think this is a fair sentence? Y'all can look at any source you'd like to see what he actually did and to read the Judges opinion, but I'll just add that he not commit any violence while there.

I’d add banning them from the internet for a little while to de-radicalize

Do they allow computers/internet in prison? This is a real ?, I'm ignorant, I have no idea what they allow nowadays.

That’s way too harsh. What’s the time served already, 6 mos?

8 months for what?

Jul 19, 2021, 7:19 PM

Is Kamala bailing them out?
Oops

Why would an obvious democrat be guilty of tax fraud anyway? Don’t they ALL pay extra for the good of the people?

"obvious democrat"? How so, I heard Trump got the highest pub black vote in years?

Because of this “Since her conviction, Mason has become more politically active – she hosted a voter registration drive ahead of Texas’s primary.”

Reporters call democrats “activists” and call republicans “right winged, white-supremacists”. Therefore, the author has described her political affiliation for me.

Why is everything race, with you?

LOL, pot meet kettle. Seriously, that was likely the first post I've ever made in relation to race and would have not except for the "obvious democrat" thing. I'm somehow puzzled by your explanation, but it's not a huge big deal to me. Just find it funny that to you 8 months is too much for this guy, understandable OK, but 5 YEARS for a vote that never counted??? I could have used numerous other stories if I wanted to though with the same point. Equal justice under the law? It's a hard one!

Equal justice????

Trump: “y’all got some bad dudes running things in the Ukraine”

Soy boys: quid pro quo!! impeach!! Impeach!!!

Biden: “you ain’t getting the billion dollars unless you fire a prosecutor (that’s investigating my son)”

Soy boys: crickets

Yes, this is precisely what happened.

He pled guilty to a crime with a max sentence of 20 yrs...

Jul 19, 2021, 7:43 PM

I'm no lawyer, but 8 months doesn't sound very harsh for a felony.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But the "felony" was a trumped up charge... pun intended.

Jul 19, 2021, 7:46 PM

Read about his case. Prosecutorial overreach.

Some of those SOBs need some biggish time. This guy, not so much...

Why did he plead guilty then?***

Jul 19, 2021, 8:03 PM

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's at the low end of any Federal time

Jul 19, 2021, 9:24 PM [ in reply to He pled guilty to a crime with a max sentence of 20 yrs... ]

and he agreed to be sentenced for up to 2 years. You get more for minor mail fraud, driving through the post office parking lot with a gun, or forging a check. It pains me to see people defending these traitors. It's the same sort of trash that defended Timothy McVeigh, Eric Rudolph, Randy Weaver, and Clive Bundy.

Seems about right _ convicted felon flor life.

Jul 19, 2021, 8:48 PM

Actions were not “nothing” but in this case not a violent crime. Sentence fits that.

Funny how “the middle” position on anything with political implications is so sparsely populated.

Like all the 80 plus election fraud cases, US courts get it right most of the time. Patriotic Americans who believe in law and order should align with Court decisions. Advocacy to change certain laws is legit when change is sought.

well, he from Florida, so that is 1 less trump voter on the roles. I guess if the felony sticks give him time served and he can just lose his right to vote like all the other poor folks down here.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Florida voters tried to change that

Jul 19, 2021, 10:17 PM

They voted to restore voting rights to felons after completion of sentence and probation. Legislature got scared and added the caveat that they also have to pay all fees, fines, and restitution. Hasn't made it to SCOTUS yet, but that should be stricken even with the current makeup.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Florida voters tried to change that

Jul 20, 2021, 7:49 PM

70% of the state voted yes on that ballot initiative. But Desantis turned it into a bureaucratic mess that makes it way harder than it needs to be, and almost impossible if you are poor. he did make medical marijuana a lot easier to get, so I guess I can not complain much.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It'd be a matter of what the precedent is for the crime

Jul 20, 2021, 7:48 AM

he was found guilty of. As long as it's in that precedent range, then it's fair.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It'd be a matter of what the precedent is for the crime

Jul 20, 2021, 9:01 AM

Well, the prosecution was seeking 18 months and it seems that they considered the worst thing he did was wear goggles and gloves, indicating that he knew it might be bad. I think the Judge considered that he plead guilty(making things easier) and expressed remorse for his actions and that he committed no violent actions. So, it could be considered fair. Now, there is a belligerent lady in Pa. that is representing herself and that hearing with her yesterday got out of hand apparently so that one will be interesting.

Jul 20, 2021, 11:20 AM

police and property and others who conspired will be given much much harsher sentences than this guy.

Still, 8 months in prison and a convicted felon for life is not an easy row to hoe.
