At the time USuC hired Muschamp I was at a wedding reception in Tampa. There were 4 or 5 guys on an outside patio watching a Florida football game. We exchanged some remarks and I told them I was a Clemson Alumnus and Tiger fan. They volunteered that we would absolutely love USuC's new hire. Man, they were right.
Both uof6c (Tanner) and Cusschamp were desperate at the time.
Tanner because every other decent head coaching option (at least seven of them) either turned him down, withdrew from consideration, or accepted better jobs elsewhere.
CussChamp because he knew Malzahn was about to fire him from the Auburn DC position. I guess he figured CootU was better than unemployment so he literally begged Tanner to hire him.
