FiveThirtyEight

Nov 13, 2022, 8:29 AM

Go here and tell me what is likely to happen if Clemson wins out: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2022-college-football-predictions/

You can play around with as many scenarios as you want. But if Clemson wins out, Clemson is in the CFP. Ignore the heavy bias by ESPN (which has Michigan and OSU both making the playoffs in 14 out of 15 of their "Expert" predictions: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/page/playoffpredictions111222/college-football-playoff-picks-week-11).

ESPN also has the "Allstate Playoff Predictor" which gives Clemson a 56% chance to make the playoffs if they win out. Presumably the 15 ESPN experts also had access to their Playoff Predictor and could Google fivethirtyeight.

Personally, I have my doubts about our ability to win out. I don't know which team will show up and if they'll be able to play 4 complete quarters at a high level. Talent all over the field, but never on the same page. We might have the best team in college football. But we sure as heck haven't shown it this season. But, I'm saying there's a chance! Ignore the media. Let it play out. We are still in chase.

We aren't going to win a national title this year. We aren't good enough. We probably aren't going to win our first playoff game if we're lucky enough to get to the playoffs. We aren't good enough. We probably are no better than 50/50 to beat UNC in the ACC Title Game, in fact. UNC's offense is very, very good, and our offense is shaky at best, and our D is...unconvincing, at times.

That said, all you can do is play the games in front of you, take it week to week, and do the best you can. If Dabo somehow gets to the playoffs with this flawed squad, he's a truly masterful coach and you can legitimately say he somehow squeezed every drop of talent there was to be had out of this team.

And hey, while I'd take long odds against Clemson doing anything in the playoffs, much less getting there, it'd be quintessential Dabo if he somehow Forest Gump'd his way to a National Title, too. I mean, seriously. This is hardly a perfect squad...but there are no perfect teams out there this year either, and can you really tell me with a straight face there'd be anybody 100% safe from us? I look at Clemson and I mostly see a mentality (and coaching) problem with certain guys, I don't see a talent problem.

So hey. Line up and play, let's see what happens. That's why we watch, right?

I’m like you as far as our playoff and ACC Championship odds. If we somehow backed into the playoffs and won I would literally laugh nonstop for a week. Can you imagine our haters if that happened? It would take an ending similar to our 2003 season to do it though.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

So there's no chance, but there's a chance?

Passes logic. ?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we likely get beat down by lsu or bama

Nov 13, 2022, 10:45 AM [ in reply to Re: FiveThirtyEight ]

in a ny six bowl..so if that is the option id rather get beat down in a playoff game for a bigger check

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

NY6 Payouts are bigger than playoff

Nov 13, 2022, 11:06 AM

Payout to team -$ gets split anyway but always better to go to the playoff than not. We’d just probably look like past OU(save the 1 year they showed up and went OT with UGA )or ND teams

That this isn’t the most powerful team that The Tigers have put on the field in recent years but Dabo has a way of getting them to play just a little better than the competition every Saturday. Of course the game with the Irish was the exception! One thing that absolutely must be eliminated for the rest of the season is turnovers. If the Tigers can do that AND stay healthy they have a good chance to make the “final four”!
Right now, with the way the team is playing, I’m not convinced they can beat UNC. DJ isn’t suddenly going to become great. He never has been so it is unlikely that he will suddenly become the best. I, like many of you, am disappointed that the new kid hasn’t had more chances to develop this year. Yesterday the receivers made a big jump. I’ve been waiting for that since September! NOW is the time to be playing your best. The next two games will tell us a lot. I’ll know when the Tigers walk off the field ....... GO FIGHTING TIGERS

Tcu winning hurt. Then the sec & big have their options

Nov 13, 2022, 11:16 AM

Any combination of uga, ut, lsu plus osu/mich winner, tcu. Then you still have usc floating around out there with one loss. us just winning out isnt going to be enough. We need carnage ahead of us. Some of you say they will never leave the acc champ out. But they absolutely will if usc wins out.
