First time visiting the Amphitheatre...

I feel terrible for all the folks devastated by Hurricane Florence, my prayers continue for them. That being said, I am frustrated by the lack of ability to be more conclusive in the path of storms. I know, it’s no ones fault it’s all mother nature but again all the costly preparations, kids out of school, poor people without transportation or financial means to evacuate and “ klunk” nothing forecasted actually happened in our area. Again, I’m being unreasonable but each time the warnings go out and nothing happens it makes people doubt the need for yet another probable false alarm. There is no answer other than improved science, data analysis and I’m not sure if or when that comes. Blah, blah, blah, I’m just babbling but has anyone else had any of the same thoughts and concerns? Just wondering.

like hurricanes are known to do it could have hit the Georgetown to Myrtle Beach area head on instead of around Wilmington. Then the people in SC who evacuated and prepared would have been glad of it.
It's the old "better safe than sorry" premise regarding hurricane preparation. Some of the people killed in NC in recent days were killed because they chose to stick it out. That's terrible but true.

Exactly, there are so many people to evacuate along our coastline it can’t be done the day before. Having worked closely with disaster preparedness the low country escaped some terrible storms over the years. We had one many years ago that we were told in the EOC that it was going to hit around Hilton Head and would drive a 20-25 wave of water up the Ashley River all of the way to Northbridge. That would have caused massive destruction all of the way up the neck of Charleston. We have been extremely lucky

many in the media and Weather Channel go over board in covering these storms. Listen to the Weather Channel people carefully, and they are more experts in linguistics than weather....."THIS STORM WILL BE THE MOST CATASTROPHIC TO HIT THE EAST COAST IN 10 YEARS potentially".....They talk is such hyperbole covering their statements with careful qualifiers that it initially makes many people panic. However, after 3 to 4 "cry wolf" scenarios, people no longer listen when they really need should be listening. And I speak from experience.....40+ years growing up in the lowcountry. Stayed through Hugo, evacuated in Floyd and slept on church gym floor in Greenwood because evacuation routes were horribly planned. We always watch, monitor, and act in our own best interest. Thankfully there are some local media weather people that call it like it is and don't dwell solely on the 5% chance of the worst case scenario as if it's gospel.

However, weather channel doesn’t need to overhype the entire eastern seaboard. Narrow that down a bit and actually offer useful info those people so they aren’t stuck in a house left for dead because they thought it was the hype machine again.
I get it’s unpredictable, but the intentional hysteria has gone a bit overboard

Just remember the people at the Weather Channel are the ones behind the idea of giving a name to every front that crosses the country in the winter time. The National Weather Service strongly disagrees with this practice so you can easily see the difference between a TV channel and a serious weather forecasting operation.

I believe the forecasters were 100% accurate. This was a strong 4 that had the potential to be a 5. I was so happy to see SC governor issuing evacuation orders early so people had time to get out. Weather forecasters were not wrong. People prayed for this storm to not be severe and God changed it. He is the only one capable of taking a storm that was 3mph from a Cat 5 and weakening it to a Cat 1.

I mention this. Why is it that when good happens it was God's work and when something horrible happens (ie, Katrina) no blame is referenced.
