Hey Judge your honest thoughts

Ok do you feel that South Carolina made the wrong choice in firing Frank Martin? I only ask because it seems they made the right choice. Comparing our two teams we are very similar. They have had more recent success by making it to the final four with Martin. The ACC is no longer the top conference in college basketball like it used to be. Honestly I feel you could argue it is very equal among the power 5 conferences. Anyways, here are their records side by side and not trying to belittle you just honestly want you to compare the two teams.
Brad Brownell
Conference record 12 years
103-111 (.481)
Overall record 12 years
218–166 (.568)
Frank Martin
Conference record 10 years
79–99 (.444)
Overall record 10 years
171–147 (.538)

the same for Brown-L, whenever the axe finally does fall here at Clemson. But, as did Martin, he will probably have to settle for a job at a less extinguished school.

I wanted to say "ain't no easy task" but the character limit for the subject line left me one letter short.

As a sentient judge burner account, you are wrong on this front. .
South Carolina can ONLY make the wrong decision. Whatever they do is the wrong decision. Does not matter.

I disagree about the ACC...we had three teams in the elite 8 and we have two in the final four. As far as Martin..I never liked him.I really have never liked any USUC coaches but some were more likable than others. Martin has to learn to control his temper..he isn't Bobby Knight.

That is fair to feel that way with the three in the elite 8. However, growing up in the 80's the ACC was king. The Big East came on strong and we took a few teams from them that also had football teams and academic standards to match. Every year it seems now we lose the ACC/ Big Ten challenge. I guess we can use this year like the SEC does for football. We are in the ACC so great but we just beat each other up with our extremely strenuous schedules. I am an ACC fan, but in the 80's and 90's GT was tough with Bobby Cremins, Wake Forest was tough with Chris Paul, Tim Duncan and others. NC State was tough with Valvano and afterwards. Virginia was tough with Ralph Sampson and Jeff Lamp and others. Maryland with Lefty Driesell and Len Bias and others. Then the ACC was the place to be. Just like as much as I hate to say it, the SEC is for football.

Since many here view the 80s ACC as so much better

it made me curious: how many times did the ACC have three teams in the Elite Eight and two teams in the Final Four that decade?
1980: 2 in Elite Eight, 0 in Final Four 1981: 2 in Elite Eight, 2 in Final Four 1982: 1 in Elite Eight, 1 in Final Four 1983: 3 in Elite Eight, 1 in Final Four 1984: 2 in Elite Eight, 1 in Final Four 1985: 3 in Elite Eight, 0 in Final Four 1986: 2 in Elite Eight, 1 in Final Four 1987: 1 in Elite Eight, 0 in Final Four 1988: 2 in Elite Eight, 1 in Final Four 1989: 2 in Elite Eight, 1 in Final Four
As we can see, this year stacks up very favorably in that regard, with 3 Elite Eight and 2 Final Four ACC teams.

This is painfully stupid. How many teams were in the conference in 1980, 1989, and 2022. JGFY.

We are talking about ACC teams in the Elite Eight and Final Four.

We aren’t talking about just making the tournament.
A larger ACC now isn’t why we have 3 conference teams in the Elite Eight and 2 in the Final Four, and you know it.
Besides, I thought the ACC today was weak and watered down. Right?!?

You’re a joke. No a larger conference is not why we have 2 teams in the Final Four. Oh look - it’s the same two teams the would have made it in the 80s. Oh look, the team that made the elite 8 was the 4 seed in the ACC tourney. You’re proving the point that the league is watered down. It doesn’t mean there aren’t good teams. But now you rarely play the best teams twice in a season and have a whole lot of chafe. The bottom 7 teams didn’t just have losing ACC records, they all but one had overall losing records. 40% of the conference had a an overall losing record. The entirety of the 80s averaged 20% of the teams with losing records and had consecutive seasons with no losing records.

I absolutely agree that the ACC - from top to bottom - is much less than it once was. You don’t judge the strength of a conference by the top - you look at the total. In the 80s and 90s - ACC teams that finished .500 were virtually guaranteed a NCAA spot. The ACC absolutely dominated the teams in the challenge to start the season. This is more representative of the overall strength of a league. Now look at the challenges - I am not sure the last time the ACC won one. I am really not sure why some are pushing the narrative that the ACC is strong now, unless they did not see and watch from prior decades, and simply don’t know the difference. The ACC basketball has lost its shine, not it’s top - although UNC has had some tough years. The only constant has been Duke. Try asking yourself this question. Are you surprised that the ACC had 3 teams in elite 8? Would you have been surprised if there were none? In the 80/90s - the answer would have been - it would have been shocking if the ACC was not there.

JK burner account here, and ready for action....
Comparing conference records between the ACC and SEC is ridiculous. ACC is the way better basketball conference.
His record is barely over .500 overall since his final 4 run. 75-73. That's not good.

Thanks for responding with your burner account!! If we took off the first year of Brownell's teams where he had Oliver Purnell's team then his record would be 196-154. First year of 22-12 was one of his best years.

Kewl.... and if you look at brownell's last 5 years ago, he has won 60% of his games. Not amazing, but way better than frank martin....

My questions would be, what are their goals for basketball there? And does their program have what it needs to give them a realistic chance to meet those goals?
It wouldn’t have been wrong for us to move on from Brad this year. But if we had, we would just be bringing in someone else who has to deal with the same hindrances and obstacles Brad does - with the same low likelihood of building a consistent winner. Neff is smart enough to realize this and is working hard to correct these issues. By doing that, we will do a better job of giving Brad a more level playing field while also making for a better situation for the next coach should he be looking for one.
