Should we patch "Howard's Rock "?

Jan 18, 2015, 11:49 PM

Seeing that chink in it just saddens me to no end. Would it be sacrilege to take some putty and have a sculptor fix it back to its original state ?
Just a thought .

I feel like it there is a good reason to do so , seeing how we can all agree that we will not be getting the missing piece (s) back .
It is a shame .

absolute shame. we could patch it with rock from Death Valley - that could work

That kid should have to serve at Ft. Leavenworth

10 years of hard labor. Let him break rocks every day since he seems to like it so much.

It's looking like he is not going to have to anything. Maybe lack of evidence or something. I don't know but it has certainly been put off for quite some time. I know his coot lawyer keeps getting it delayed.

I think so. Don't let that little insect's vandalism become a permanent feature.***

Agreed . Though isn't the obviously broken Iconic rock a reminder to those of us who know what it was shaped like before ?

I also like the idea of using rocks from Death Valley to repair it.

So you would just get a similar rock from Death Valley , California and bring it to Clemson . You would then use that rock to form fit into where the broken piece (s) were stolen from , using 3-D printable technology .
Got it .

I think so

Jan 19, 2015, 8:02 AM

I would imagine with 3-D printing they could create a replacement piece and connect it back to the original to the point that if you didn't know it was broken you wouldn't be able to tell.

Re: I think so

Feel like their should be a movement on this . That rock is broken. We shouldn't have to suffer because of one fool's egregiousness . The legacy of Frank Howard is entwined with that rock , and it should look the way it looked when it sat in his office all those years ago.

NO. It's just another part of the history... and original.***

Get someone to properly 3D map the rock in its current

Jan 19, 2015, 3:38 PM

state. Then find a large sized rock in Death Valley with similar colors of the current one, use a CNC machine to finely carve out the inverse of the 3D scan and match the old face on the exterior. Either drill holes and put in dowels with adhesives or use adhesive to bond the two, the rendering and CNC should be good enough it will almost hold without.

Every time I watch the ESPN video that preceded the 2013 UGA kick off where Heather Cox describes the vandalism and states " the rock isn't quite what it once was " it makes me want to form a lynch mob and go drag that jacka$s to the top of the hill and beat him like a rented mule .
I get very angry about it , to be plain spoken.

Only if we use a piece of rock from DV California

Jan 19, 2015, 5:22 PM

to repair it. Collected from the same area of DV Cali as the original. Then I'd be okay with it, definitely. We shouldn't let that scumbag's vandalism remain permanently.

If Frank Howard demanded 110% , then shouldn't his rock be 100% there ? Even if we are using substitute parts , it will look and feel the same in 2015 as it did in all of the years prior to this despicable act .

as much as I hate that it happened, it did, and now it's a part of the history of the Rock. It adds to Clemson's football history and there's no need to add a fake piece to the rock. Keep it as it is.
