Report: ACC contacted Oklahoma, Texas as reports of their Big 12 departure grows

Oklahoma and Texas are far from the Atlantic Coast, but that apparently did stop their prominent athletic programs from getting a look from the ACC. The conference realignment silly season is back after a several-year pause with reports of a move to the SEC from Oklahoma and Texas. Apparently their Read Update »

Of course getting the full football conference commitment from N.D. would be a primary goal if the ACC looks to get to 16. But who else should we shoot for? Maybe try to poach Penn State? Perhaps Oklahoma State or West Virginia of the Big 12 is dying anyway? Possibly Cincinnati or South Florida? I think Penn St. first and USF second would be my targets (again, assuming a full Notre Dame commitment). Thoughts?

OK State or TCU

And If ND balks at full membership, let em go and get both of these.

I think they would call it quits after ND joined and leave the conference at 15. That’s the reasoning behind wanting to remove the requirement of having divisions in order to have conference games. That way, the conference can rotate games without divisions like last year and still have the two best teams play for a championship, generating more revenue.

The only exception I think is maybe Penn State since they command tv money and have academic standards. WV doesn’t fit the academic ideals and UCF/USF/Cincinnati/OK state etc wouldn’t bring enough money in to make it worth having to share with them.

I would seriously look at the Naval Academy. Gives ND a historic rival, brings the Maryland market in, falls in line with academics, and gives the conference another school with some history. Navy might not be a sexy pick but if we're seriously talking about big 12 leftovers or Navy I'd rather have Navy

Not really. Last Expansion in 2011 ACC jumped the gun with Pitt and Syracuse before aTm and Mizzou to the SEC.

Whatever college football is going to look like in the future it won’t be pretty. And not the sport I love’d.

Sure hope the attempt to eliminate divisions happens. Let the 2 best teams play for the championship each year.
