North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Iwo Jima. One of my uncles (mother's brother) was in the first three. He was wounded in North Africa, recovered and wounded again in Sicily, recovered and refused to go home. He was killed at St. Lo, France July 12, 1944.
Another uncle (father's brother) was wounded 45 minutes after he landed on the beach at Iwo Jima on Feb 19, 1945.

Sorry drummer, all 4 dates are correct.
My father was also in the first three above invasions. There were dozens of D-Days in WWII. The Normandy invasion usually comes to mind because it was the largest amphibious invasion in history.
The starting date of any invasion or major military operation is known as D-Day.

signifies. I was watching Charley Kirk or maybe it was Mark Dice interview people in New York and he asked them why are we celebrating July 4th......Different people replied..."To celebrate our independence from Germany that we won in 1959", " To celebrate the end of the war with the South",etc.etc. I was dumbfounded.

it's like the Susan B Anthony breast cancers foundation. There are other cancer foundations, breast cancer sis one of the most curable.. but it is the most known and probably most funded.
2000ish American's were killed on June 6th.. the actual invasion day. The rest were killed during the next 3 months trying to establish the beachhead.
Every major battle of the Civil war probably saw twice than many in a 1 day period.
and.. you know those shows ask 30000 people.. but they only show 30 seconds of the 6 or 7 people with stupid answers.

6 June, 1944
I had no immediate family member in WWII. Knew a father of a friend that was a Marine in the Island hopping Campaign and then in Korea. Hadn’t seen him in 20 years when he died, but thought enough of him that I asked if I could come to his funeral. He’s at Arlington. When they read his military record, it made every hair on my body stand at attention. 5 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars. He was an in the flesh walking, talking miracle.

You left off June 25th 1876 or March 6th 1836,days of defeat for George Custer and the Fall of the Alamo. After all isn't that what the "D" in D-day stands for  EFEAT!
